99 cavalier drivers door wont latch without force

My drivers door latch wont latch... the problem is in the latch and not the bolt in the door frame, you can take a pencil or whatever and move the latch mechanism and it will move back and forth with no resistance or latching, ive cleaned it, oiled it messed with the attachment hardware with some minimal success but nothing is working

The spring that engages the latch rusts out and breaks. Mine just did the same thing. It'll have to be replaced.

If there is no resistence to the latch then it will have to be replaced.

Drivers side door will not stay closed locked or unlocked.

Check the latch mechanism on the side of the door away from the hinge. The easiest way I can think of to do this is to push a large bolt (about the same size as the door latch pin on the frame) into the latch mechanism to simulate the door closing action. The latch should close over the bolt and not allow you to pull the bolt out in the door open direction unless you open the door handle.

If the latch works properly, check the door alignment to make sure it is actually engaging the pin.

On a 2004 cavalier, my rear driver side door wont open from the inside or out. i removed the door panels, compared the two to find the mechinism that opens the door is broken or jamed. i tryed everything...

Unbolt the hinges at the other end of the door and unbolt the pin that the the door latch locks on. The pin nut is behind the seat back. Be careful that the door doesn't fall on the floor and get scratched up. Good Luck

Need to replace door latch on 2001 cavalier drivers side, how do you remove the latch? The rods coming from the door handles hook through the arms coming off the latch

Hello, I think I know your problem and I can help. The rods are attached with little plastic fasteners that "swing away" to release the rods. I am sending you a picture of a typical fastener, if you look at it you will see a square channel with one side open. The open part is where you unsnap it. It's a tight squeeze but you can reach in and unsnap the connectors to free the latch, then just remove the bolts holding the latch to the door. When you go to put it all back together, I find it's easier to unbolt the outside door handle and push everything up and out the hole to give room to connect the fasteners. Once everything is connected just slip it all down and bolt the latch to the door and bolt the outside handle back. I hope this helps you with your problem, if not feel free to ask anything else that might help, good luck. fc85c18.jpg

When i close my chevy cavalier door it is not catching and staying shut

The latch may have gotten tripped without being latched. Look in the latch area of the door and see if you can stick a screwdriver or a pen into the latch from the end and pull it towards the inside of the door while pulling on the handle. The screwdriver should pop free and the door may work then. If it does it regularly or won't latch still, you may need to adjust the strike (the bolt-like thing that sticks out from the door jamb) Loosen it with a T-47 torx bit and tap it up or down until it line up with the latch. adjust it in and out until the door latches reliably and is lined up with the body when latched.

99 Cavalier driver door wont close when cold

In my case the latch mechanism was frozen. The best bet for that is to allow it to be heated; hair dryer or something then put WD40 or something on it until i get a new one

99 Ford Windstar Back door replacement

If I recall the wiring plugs in at the top you may be able to pull the plug with out droping the back of the headliner, But I am not sure, if not pull the two clips in the rear and one uper side panel for access. You will need someone to help yu remove the door. After you get the wiring loose at the roof and the washer hose, remove one nut/bolt out of each hinge at the door frame, and loosen the other two, remove the gas lift shocks by using a small screw driver to pry the clip back on the end that attaches to the door while some holds the door up, then remove the last two bolt/nuts in the door hinges, and remove the door. If you need to use parts on the old door like the lock cylinder yoou will need to remove the inner plastic panel to gain access to the clip that holds the cylinder. Replace in reverse order and adjust to fit properly before tightning the bolts at the hinges, then snap lift shocks back on and replug harness at roof and washer hose. Hope this helps.
