Told it was tourque converter solenoid, but I have no transmission problems. Dealer wants to replace transmission on 160K+ mile vehicle. Other mechanic says they are getting same results as dealer. Could it be the O2 sensor?

This sounds like the idle air control valve. This valve sits on the inlet manifold and basicly regulated the flow of air for tickover( or idle). The usual operation of this valve is, when the engine is running at high speed the valve will be closed, when the engine comes down to idle, the main throttle butterfly will shut as you lift your foot off the pedal. The idle valve will open and give a small amound of air to the engine, just enough to run it at idle speed. These valves can stick open, therefore letting air in when the throttle is open, giving the engine too much air. WD40 is only a temporary repair untill it jams again. Best course of action is to have part replaced.

TPS of Throttle Position Sensor needed adjusting and is the problem and not the gearbox.
This usually happens when the engine light comes on and the TPS is adjusted but most dealers forget (or maybe intentionally) to reset the gearbox P/TRN Fuse.
Whenever the engine light comes on the gearbox is set to run in Sick Slow mode which is why you have this problem.
Before doing anything, try pulling the P/TRN fuse for 5 mins and put it back. Then try the car.
Hope it works, i did for me.

Could be Throttle Position Sensor or TPS problem.
