Question about 2006 Jaguar S-Type

Key fobs not working on a 1999 XJ Sport 3.2 V8

Battery died, changed it and put new batteries in both keyfobs. Tried various solutions involving flashing of headlights, pressing of central locking sequences etc but nothing works. The boot still opens by the keyfob and occasionally it will central lock and open but only once in a blue moon. Any suggestions other than taking it into Jaguar dealerships as it would probably be cheaper to fit a thatcham or other approved system than pay for a remap??

The jaguar system can only be reset using jaguar tester, to reprogram.

I would have thought it would be cheaper to pay for reprogramming than to replace the system. Replacing the system is not as easy as you would think. You must remove the old system first and this could be a problem. Strongly recommend going to the jag dealer for restting

    Hope this helps

This is from the factory service manual of your car:
There is no onboard programming procedure for this vehicle. This vehicle requires special equipment be connected to the vehicle to program the keyless remote. Translation you need the dealer to do this.

You do not have a choice, you must go to a dealership. They have a computer for this prupose and it does not cost much. I usually drive into the service drive through and the shop foreman does this for me in about 5-10 min. and the charge is minimal. The keys are what cost a small fortune.

X type 2003 my key will not work when using the push buttons tried changing battery but nothing happens only way is manualy then I have to get in the car and turn engine on to disarm the alarm

1.)I would recommended that you ensure all key fobs are fitted with new batteries. ( Click here to see battery replacement guide).
2.)Get in the car and close the drivers side door.
3.)Put the key into the ignition and turn to position I.
4.)Wait 5 seconds
5.)Turn the key quickly to position II then back to I four times.
6.)You should hear a single chime.
7.)Remove the Key
8.)For each Keyfob in rapid succesion. Press any single button on the keyfob you wish to pair, you should hear a chime as each Keyfob is paired with the security system. After the chime do the next Keyfob.
9.)Check operation of each Keyfob.

copy/pasted from the above link..

"Programming or pairing a new remote Keyfob for the X Type is a very simple job that will cost a substantial amount if it is done by Jaguar. It's annoying but this may need to be done if your Keyfob battery has been allowed to go flat, or the car battery has been removed for any length of time.
Follow these steps exactly and you should have no problems, pairing old or replacement Keyfobs for your car.

Your key fob needs reprogramming, and yes the alarm will go off when you open the door, but you have enough time to put the key in the ignition which will prevent the alarm sounding. Car is usable until you get the fob sorted by locking and unlocking using the key.

Reprogramming jaguar x type key fob

Your key FOB is easily programmed by yourself without the need of computer, here is how: Push and hold the trip computer button on the left stalk, while holding the button turn the ignition ON and OFF several times untill you hear a confirmation tone from the glovebox area, when the tone is heard, release the button and remove the key from the ignition, immediately after push any button on the Key FOB and you'll hear another tone that confirms the programming.
