also have your battery checked if weak idle air control will not work correctly

You may have a plugged catalytic converter. When you are on the gas, the engine is basically forcing the air through, but at idle and much lower exhaust pressure, the gas pressure builds up and suffocates the engine.

It should cost around $10 to take it to a shop where they will test it for you. They drill a small hole BEFORE and then AFTER the cat and use a gauge to measure the PSI of airflow. They then weld the 2 small holes shut.

I had this happen to me with my 1995 Neon. It was very confusing until my father suggested I try the "cat" solution. Pretty neat!

Hope this cures it for ya. btw- a new "cat" should run around $200 installed.

Is the check engine light on when the engine is running ?
It could be a bad injector that is flooding a cylinder, or not giving the cylinder enough fuel. Or it could be an electrical problem.

'97 crown vic cranks but stalls immediately

Idle air control valve. And/or gunked up throttle body, pcv port at throttle where mating to intake manifold.

Shut down

try this.
Here is the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

1995 dodge neon stalls when air conditioner is turned on

turning on a/c should automatically increase the idling, so that's where your problem is. need to look at the system where the throttle is open a bit when a/c is turn on

My Neon keeps stalling

Try the simple stuff first and ask yourself these questions:

How old are the spark plugs? (I think this is 90% gaurenteed the problem)

Is the car getting enough air through the filter?
Is the filter dirty? (replace if so)
If not you might need your idle advanced a little.

1998 neon stalling

good morning and welcome to fixya
you sound like you have a good start to figuring out your problem. how many miles and when was your last tune-up? a good fuel injection cleaning would not hurt you at all. how does the air filter look? this problem can stem froma few different sources i would check the air filter to begin with and change and clean the air cleaner housing of any debris that may be in there. the fuel injection will benefit because it will also clean the IAC ( idle air control) which very easily could be your culprit. does the car idle fine at times other than you stated? You can have the IAC checked for resistence and volts to make sure it is within limits, normaly 1.5-3v crosscount reading, anything higher or lower then it needs changed. you might also think about changing the fuel filter on the vehicle to, this will always help. also have you tried running gas from a different company? lately there has been alot of problems with moisture and debris in the gas station tanks? check this few suggestions out and let me know what you come up with. thank you again.

please rate this solution??
