I would like to know If my 3.8l engine in my car has a non or interference engine in it

most newer vehicles are interference, basically if the timing chain or belt breaks it will cause internal engine damage. eg: bent valves, broken pulleys.

2001 Chevrolet tracker sports package is 2.5engine an interference engine or not. think timing chain is gone no compression shut off then will not start.

Well you are right in saying you have a chain and not a belt.
Engines with timing chains are almost never interference engines, and yours is not on that list.
Its probably one of the tensioners or idlers that has failed.

My timing chain has snapped

I assume it's your timing belt, not a chain, which rarely, if ever snap. Depending on the make of the car and the engine you may, or may not, have serious engine damage.. DO NOT ATTEMPT to start the car, have it towed to your shop of choice. If there is no engine damage a timing belt replacement generally will run you 2 or 3 hundred bucks...if you did serious engine damage you may have to decide if the car if worth the money to have it repaired. What you need to know is whether your car has an "interference" or "non-interference" type engine.. In an interference type engine if the timing belt breaks the valves will "interfere" with the pistons as they travel up if the timing belt breaks, which results in generally catastrophic engine failure.. non-interference engines generally suffer little or no engine damage with a broken timing belt.. I broke a timing belt on my 1990 Toyota Supra going 70mph, but it was a non-interference engine and after having the belt replaced it was fine.. here is a good list someone put together on what type of engine is in your car.. you should find the engine type either marked on the engine or on a label under the hood, or the owners manual.. good luck.

Is it an interference or noninterference engine? Think timing chain has broke

Broken timing chain is a very large problem, if it happened while engine is running. Bent/broken valves and such. Makes a LOT of noise, and engine stops immediately.

Your question doesn't include make/model/year, so your question isn't possible to answer. Doesn't really matter, though, if your timing chain broke. That's pretty rare. Timing belt, yes. Chain, no.

I fitted the timing belt but the warning light is still on

did the engine die before thj
which light?, there are 10 or more? lost the operators guide? its free.
did you check compression first. i would. it proves it was done right
and if interference engines I do a hand cranked leak down test
to avoid bent valves. YMMV, good luck there......

USA answer.: OBD2 systems.
first clear the DTCs
then run it. see if they return.
if do post them. DTC are errors.
no engine option stated, no series LC. either so cant say for sure.

200 series? and engines?
SO Your engines is the 4.7L and as such , you check
the belt timing 3 times then run a leak down test by hand
and roll the engine by hand first. after belt swap
with sparks out to be sure the pistons dont hit the valves.
if they do , stop.
never crank over in any interference engine blind.
the stater motor can bend valves.
if the engine ran bad, and you found the belt slipped.
the leak down test, would be next. for sure.

always ask how to service interference engines.
there are lots of precautions,.

Does the nissan quest 1999 timing belt needs to be

The Quest has a non interference engine meaning that should the belt break the engine would just die without breaking anything. Nissan recommends 105K for changing but that depends on the way the vehicle was driven (driving habits), road conditions etc. If driving on roads for e.g. that are hilly, it labors the engine more thus shortens the lifespan of the belt according to mfg.
