Question about 1997 Volkswagen Jetta

Jetta Sunroof Stuck Tilted

My 97 Jetta' sunroof was open to the tilted airflow setting and now wont close. I have tried the manual closing and that dosent move it at all. When I press the close and open button i hear the engine working and I see a little shuttle go back and forth on the left side but not the right. What should i do to get this thing fixed or at least closed

Take a screwdriver, stick it into the track where you can see the shuttle that doesn't work, and guide it back. You want to close it with the engine and use the screwdriver at the same time. This will get it closed. My car has the same problem. I can open it fine, but my left side won't close.

Sounds like sunroof is stuck, motor can't overcome load. Cheap test: car off, interior light turned on try to move sunroof, does light dim? If yes motor is trying to move but can't. If light does not dim then motor not getting power.

The side steel mechanism maybe jammed or worn, or possible foreign object jammed within the mechanism. Ii will require taking the sunroof apart, unless you can free it. Possible sunroof mechanism replacement. Hopefully this helps

MY SUNROOF WONT CLOSE

Check the owner's manual. There should be a section showing how to manually close the sunroof. You will use an allen wrench to turn the gears manually, I just don't know exactly what size or where the hole is located. It is typically located right behind the sunroof with a plug covering the hole in the headliner.

Open sunroof that will not close.

you can open and close you sunroof "manually" remove the plastic cover next to your sunroof and dome light buttons (above your rearview mirror) there is an allen wrench stored inside... insert the wrench into the corresponding hole and you can close or open you sunroof by turning the wrench
