Hi Louise,

My name is Mike. The clutch itself is relatively inexpensive,. The cost of changing one out is the big expense as the process is labor intensive. The engine and transmission need to be separated, the old clutch removed, the new one install, then the engine and transmission rejoined.

While it can be accomplished under a shady tree, the process is greatly accelerated by having the vehicle up on a lift in a garage.

Call around for pricing, most shops will give you a flat rate quote. Or if you know a mechanic that owes you a favor AND you aren't in a hurry, you can save a large portion of the expense.

Side note: I've been an Expert here at Fixya for over eight months and have never had a problem.

I'm sorryt Louise, I thought I had answered your question.
    To reiterate:

    • The clutch itself is not that expensive.

    • The process of changing it takes a while, therefore the labor costs can be quite high.

    • The process does not necessarily need to be done in a garage, however the specialized tools available (mainly a vehicle lift) greatly streamline the operation.

    • Either way, it is the labor costs that are going to be expensive. Several hundred dollars worth.
If there was something more, please ask.

    Mike

Who much does it cost to put new clutch in freelander

Labor cost is 6hrs of book time, in my area average labor cost is$150.00 so $900.00' Parts will run about $300. If you take it to a dealer ask for a firm price quote, also watch out for unfair labor pricing. A new trick is charging a different rate based on the job, in some cases I have seen hourly rate changes with major discrepancies. For example, 6 hour job for hours 1-3 $150.00 for hours 4-5 $175 then hour 6 $200.00. Quite unfair as you should get a break on a bigger job as far as I am concerned. And do ask for a discount AFTER they give you the quote.

Have freelander td4 03 plate, continuous problem with clutch. had new clutch , slave cylinder and master 2 months ago, all fine till a month ago lost pedal completely , had new master fittted problem fixed...

Definitely a hydraulic issue. Iknow you said they were both changed, but its usually the master & slave assembly that go faulty on the Freelander. Both parts come filled with fluid and pre-bled and only require fitting, no bleeding. Check with garage to make sure they did not split / bleed them.

Freelander w reg. 1.8 petrol, 64,000 miles on clock. when do I need to change the timing belt

If you are asking about the actual TIMING BELT and not the serpentine belt, I would check with a dealership or a local garage. The Freelander has three (3), yes--3 timing belts:

front timing belt

left side rear timing belt

right side rear timing belt

Hope this helps!

quite a few people have this problem ,it would appear that the problem lies in the connection plug where the lights wiring connects to the chassis loom.normally a quick clean and grease of the connections works wonders

With a lift and tranny jack, it'll probably take a full 8hr day to do it, if you have never done one before.
here is a COMPLETE WRITE-UP on the process to give you an idea of whats involved.
