Toyota Matrix Check engine light is on

Hi everyone. I have a problem on toyota matrix, the car filled with diesel oil by mistake, run 2.5 miles and shut down, I took the car to Midas near by, they empty and clean the gas tank, and blow the engine, try to get as much as diesel oil out from the car. Everything works fine after they clean it, expect there're smokes coming out from the back. and the sending unit doesn't work.
two days later, the check engine light is on. what is the problem on the car?

Please help!!!

Thank You

I forgot to mention, the spark plugs were replaced and they put two bottles of the injector cleaner liquid in the gas tanks also. It's the best way to take it to Autozone to check it, right?

    Thank You askmee,
I went to check this morning at autozone, they told me is the O2 sensor. they told me there're O2 sensor, and they don't know which one.

Thank you for your help askmee

I replaced a new O2 sensor, and the Check engine light is off !
    Thank you again askmee!

Is it because the diesel cause that problem? because the gas tank and the engine is not clean enough, the smoke cause the O2 sensor bad?
I think that's the problem, right?

Is it a check engine light or Maintenance Required light? If its the maintenance required light, turn the car off, push and hold the trip odometer button while turning the ignition back on. Don't start the car. You'll see five dashes that will count down to none. That'll reset the maintenance required light. Do it after every oil change and it'll come on when its time for an oil change.

I would assume you need to replace spark plugs and fuel injectors (or try to use injector cleaner liquid). Also check/replace catalytic converter. Check engime lights codes you can read for free in nearest Autozone store. I would assume it either fuel evaporation problem or O2 sensor.
Please kinly let me know if you need more infor
Good Luck

Probably both tank was contaminated and engine was smoking and it cause O2 sensor to go bad

How do i turn off check engine light on a toyota matrix 2005 after oil and filter change

The check engine light indicates a need for a scanning with a engine scan tool (OBD-II perhaps).

An oil change will not get rid of this light.

2005 matrix with 65k miles. any critical maintenance coming up? car is running fine.

60 k should include oil change, rotate tires, some filters (air, cabin air..etc), brake inspection, as well as a overall general check. Your next major maintenance will be at 100 k. Just keep up your reg. maintenance. You'll find the Toyota Matrix is a very dependable vehicle.

Check Engine Light On

you have to go to a garage equiped with a scanner or code reader to retrieve the code that was stored in the car computer, and then resume to repair the problem accordingly. your car now is running in safe mode (not the best scenario)
