I have a 99 mitsubishi galant need to replace expansion valve. do i need to remove complete dash panel.

no, the a/c box is in 3 parts. you will need to remove the glove box, then remove the section just left of the blower motor. this is where the a/c evaporator is located and the expansion valve is on the side of the it.

Can't find rear a/c expansion valve, where is it

I am in the process of doing the same procedure on my 2001 durango 5.9... condensor, compressor, accumulator, followed by both front and rear expansion valves. I pulled the rear passenger side trim off after following the pipes to the back. It looks like the expansion vale is the first component hooked to the pipes just as they come through the body into the cabin. It appears to be wrapped in a black sticky mat... I did not unwrap yet so it may not be... What are your failure symptoms? I have a slow leak and a blockage inside the system to where it cannot be fully charged without releasing pressure from the rear of the compressor. I sure hope its not in the evaporator core...

Where is the expansion valve

It does not have an expansion valve. It uses a fixed orifice tube in the line. They seldom go bad (get plugged).

What are your symptoms that make you think you have a bad orifice?

The a/c system compressor should cycle on and off about 4 times/minute at 70 degrees F. AT 90 F, it should stay engaged all the time. The on/off control is a pressure switch, usually on the accumulator bottle.

No the ac line, it comes from the compressor and goes to the expansion valve, the charging port may be on the expansion valve, it was on allot of cars.
