SOURCE: poor starting problem bmw 318 ti

WARNING! Always wear protective eyewear, gloves and necessary clothing before inspection or work begins. Never crank an engine over when you are near the battery or engine. A battery is filled with explosive gasses that can ignite when extreme heat or a spark is present. A battery could have residual acid on the outside casing so use caution when handling a battery and the surrounding area. Use baking soda to neutralize any suspected acid residue before work begins.

You can check the car battery using a multimeter or voltmeter an electronic one is preferred , connect the black wire to the negative side (-) and the red to positive , WARNING :DO NOT CROSS THE RED AND BLACK WIRES OR SHORT CIRCUIT THE LEADS OF THE BATTERY OR MULTIMETER YOU CAN GET SERIOUSLY HURT!!!!! you should also get a spare watering can and fill it with water ,  (dont reuse for other purposes for safety) and remove those little tabs (usually around 4 or more) and fill it up very little in each tab/cap make sure you DONT fill it to the top. The good condition of a battery is 12.5 and 12.8 volts on the multmeter and when the car is started it
(not driven just started) should around 14V which shows that your alternater (acts as battery charger when driving) is working properly.

Go to pdftown.com. They have a BMW 3 series service manual. Very good manual. I use it all the time.

This is the link for the manual. It is a large file so it will take a while, but it is free. http://pdftown.com/search/node/BMW+3+Series+E36+wiring

SOURCE: bmwX3 2006 engine light

Hello There.

These come on as a precousionary measures, even if there is a slight misfire in the engine it generates a code which can be read and inform you why it is there, most of the time these are minor things and light can be reset. The only time you need to get seriously worried is when the letters 'eml' light up with the engine light, then you have a serious problem.

Hope this helps and please don't forget to rate me.

thanks

SOURCE: 2003 BMW 325i will start but making noise

It might be a faulty power steering pump. Try checking the level of the power steering fluid. It is probably best you have your power steering system checked by a mechanic.

Does the noise occur only when the vehicle is moving?

Try moving the steering wheel from side to side, while stationary (but don't do it too often, or you might damage something). If the noise is still present when the car is stationary, then it probably is the power steering system.

If the noise only occurs while the vehicle is moving, it could be a problem with the differential/final drive, or even wheel bearings.

Hi my 02 3 series wont start, when i turn the key the front lights flash the dash lights flash and the engine sounds if its trying to start but no go

1 Listen for unusual sounds when you try to start the car. No sounds indicates a problem with the ignition. If you hear a clicking sound, the starter is faulty. If the car starts for a moment then shuts off, you may hear a knocking noise. This can be from a faulty fuel injector or the individual components of the system, such as the fuel filter, fuel pump or hoses.
2 Check the fluid levels in your BMW. Little or no fluid can cause your engine to seize up and not be able to start. It can also cause more severe engine damage if it goes on for too long. Checking your fluids can also alert you to any leaks within the engine. Some drivers have reported leaks in the cooling system that can cause overheating problems. There have also been reports of power steering hoses failing and leaking. By checking your coolant and power steering fluid, you can diagnose if they are the problem.
4 Add gas to your tank. Although the BMW 540i has a gas gauge that indicates the fuel level, in some cases the gauge may be faulty. After adding fuel, attempt to start the car again.
5 Note any smells that may be coming from the engine. When your engine was still running, you may have noticed odors, such as a burning or oil smell. This would indicate that the engine is leaking, and fluid is burning off in the engine. Some owners on Repair Pal have reported complaints with the 540i that the valve cover, intake manifold and PCV plate leak oil after 60,000 miles.

2003 bmw 330xi wont start checked battery and battery is good. hear a clicking noise and that it. It does not try to start of turn over. sounds like that starter from what I'm used to hearing on other cars

The noise is coming from the starter solenoid. The plunger is acting but the Starter Solenoid Contacts are burnt. In some cases we replace the solenoid contacts and the plunger. All have 1/8" thick copper contacts.
The other options are, replace the solenoid, or the starter with a rebuild one.

My saturn sl2 alarm starts to beep when I try to start the car and won't stop for about a minute. Car won't start. My power locks have been disabled(over a year now). It started acting strangely and...

This sounds somewhat similar to a problem I had with my 1999 Saturn SL2. There was "burning and arching" on the fusebox and it was replaced. The first few times my car would make an extra beep noise when locked or unlocked and I believe the radio/clock had to be reset. The problem got worse although sporadic. Eventually the car wouldn't start - not even making a clicking noise and a big variety of electrical components would not work or didn't sound right.
