The key switch usually breaks or wears out and makes contact. It is on the lock cylinder. This would cause the chime to not come on, or stay on. Sounds like the switch is bad.

1997 F-150/250 Warning Chime, Key-In-Ignition The key-in-ignition chime warns that the key is still in the ignition when the driver's door is ajar. The key-in-ignition warning chime will sound when:

  • GEM: Driver door is ajar, the ignition switch is in the OFF/LOCK or ACC position and the keys are in the ignition.
  • CTM: Driver door is ajar, the ignition switch is in the OFF/LOCK, ACC or RUN position and the keys are in the ignition.
The key-in-ignition warning chime will stop sounding when:
  • Driver door is closed.
  • Key is removed from the ignition.
  • GEM: Ignition switch is switched to the RUN position.
The key-in-ignition warning chime inputs are:
  • Ignition switch RUN position (battery potential on both RUN and RUN/ACC inputs).
  • Ignition switch ACC position (battery potential on RUN/ACC input only).
  • Key-in-ignition switch (grounded with key-in-ignition, open circuit with key-out).
  • LH door ajar switch (open circuit with door closed, grounded with door ajar).
This is a pic for a 98, could not find one for 97 which may be the older style which is more prone to break.

To get the chime to stop you need to take the ignition column cover off and the ignition switch out. Then you need to check the little wire and clip that is still attached to where the ignition came out. If it is still there it needs to be fastened back in place. once done chime should be gone!

Do you bypass or take out the antitheft system the same way in all ford mustang if not need to know how on 97 year lost key and don't have the money to get new one and need to move where it is at asap

You can't take out or bypass the system. The alarm and immobiliser are there to stop exactly what you want to do.

There is a chip in the key and a chip in the ignition lock. Once both are in close proximity, they send a message to the car's computer and the computer releases power to the ignition. Without any one of those parts, the immobiliser comes into operation to stop anyone moving the vehicle.

The only thing you can do is tow it until you get the key.

I have a 200 F150 the alarm has a problem when i drive lights blink on off dont stop when i trun off the truck light switch wont trun lights off i take battery cable off . how do i reset the alarm thanks...

Google all the windshield leaking issues on those thrucks

The water comes down the A pillar & into the top couple
relays inside the cover on the left side of your lower dash
by your knee & turns on relays & sometimes kills the GEM
Module, which is fords wording for body module from 96 or 97
thru about 03. No one in the world ever used that term but ford

What happens is that the blower turns on & kills the battery,
or other delayed accy relay related issues

That may or may not be your problem

The only body function that is tied to the pcm, is the PATS or alarm,
all other body functions are gem & relay related by themselves

The alarm you turn the key on & off 3 times I believe & you will
see a dash light stop blinking

I need a rekey done oon a 97 ford f150 please help anyone know anything about it

Take your vehicle registration to Ford and they will check proof of ownership and cut you another key based on the VIN number. If that is not the problem then remove your ignition lock and take the tumbler assembly to Ford and have them change the pins in the tumbler to a new key format. Save your old key for the doors. Both of these items will work depending on what you require. Good luck.

I want to bypass my 99 ford f150 alarm system

If you are talking about the PATS system, no way to do it. There is no factory alarm from Ford, if it is a Ford OEM system, it was added at the dealer. The 97 & 98 has a factory alarm system, but this was deleted after the introduction of PATS in 1999.

Key cut for 97 ford f150

If you already have a key bring it to walmart. If you dont, take apart your ignition assembly and get the part that the key goes into and bring it to a lock smith. They are usually very good at making keys.
