Question about 2000 Nissan Maxima

2000 Nissan Maxima dipping RPM's and no acceleration

I have a 2000 Maxima that has a problem with running properly with a check engine light. The RPMs dip when first started cold, and it continues to do it. They would dip really low and then soar back up and it did it over and over again. The other night, I had no passing power. First try, the engine would go up to 3000 rpms and wouldn't accelerate and then, next try thecar would **** forward trying to go but couldn't raise the rpms. Following that, I took it to a back road, trying to diagnose just how bad it was and rolling at 30 mph, I put the pedal to the floor and it wouldn't accerate at all.

Now, I took it to Autozone to have the check engine light checked, and I was told it was the EGR valve. Now I haven't got it yet but can you tell me where the EGR valve is located and then what you think could be wrong?

I also forgot to mention, the steering column is crooked, it's as if the previous owner used it to get out of the car all of the time and now, it's so far right that it has no gap on the left side, it collided with the dash on the right upper corner since I'm tall and have it all the way up, and it has a gap between the dash and collar that I can stick my fingers threw on the left.

What could have caused this (carfax says no wrecks) and how do I fix that.

I dont have the code, the Hand-held he plugged in to the car just displayed "EGR Valve Malfunction."That's all I saw.

No problems with EGR valves/system on this model car. Its located under the throttle body. Your valve is electronically controled by the ECM/Computer. Pretty bullet proof setup. What is the actual code number that autozone gave you?? Let me know the code number and will take it from there.

I have a 2003 nissan maxima v6... how do I check if my muffler is clog or converter the car starts and run for a couple of mins but I try to give it gas but my rpms dont go over 2000? It only picks up...

you only have to go to the nearest place to have the fault codes read. converters cab break up and block the exhaust but this is after high rpms and constant high speed driving and exhaust mufflers very seldom block up. The restricted rpms indicate that the engine /transmission is in protected mode and that will be revealed by the fault codes obtained from the reading.

Did you buy the car new ?
Sounds like a flood car or a rebuilt wreck.
Could be a faulty computer too.
Nissan cars are built good enough a normal car would not be having this many problems.

I have a 2003 nisan maximawhen accelerating I hear

You hear clicking from the engine. If it increases in speed when you accelerate and decreases as you slow down, try listening for it in park. If the sound continues you need to take it to a shop. If the sound is only present when you are moving you need to have your CV joints checked.

Car: Nissan Maxima SE 1997 tachometer broken

the dash voltage egulator probably went bad. First, check the battery & make sure you have 12 volts, not running. Check it again running & you should see about 14.5 volts. If that's good,I'd replace the guage assembly.

Since RPM meter is also important so that you can control the engine from overspeed. It is also important to repair the thing your rpm cable maybe worn out already. If it is an electronic rpm meter cold Solder in electronic lead might be the cause.
