Question about 1997 Jeep Cherokee Country

I have a 1997 cherokee country 6 cyl. 4.0L, and my cruise control will not work I dont know what it is?

    Please provide more info. Did it just fail? Did it work yesterday and not today? Did it start wearing out and got harder to use over time? These are things we need to know.

Cruise control works from engine vacuum. Check for leaks where vacuum hoses connect to inlet manifold and vacuum canister behind front bumper for damage or leaks.

Cruise dont work after 35mph or engage but the green light comes on


bad speed sensor or bad cruise control relay... or if you have an electronic throttle position sensor I would look into that also. Good luck.

Engine light came on...reading states its my cam shaft sensor, but dealer states 1997 grand cherokees 6 cyl. dont have a cam shaft sensor...What can it be then? if reading staes its a cam shaft?


Your cam sensor is inside the distributor. Problem is they list it as a Stator, not a sensor. on newer models, the sensor replaces the entire distributor. To remove it, you need to take the distributor out of the engine and remove the center shaft etc.

yes AC was standard. below is the list.

Firing order for 1997 jeep cherokee straight 6 cyl.


153624 On cap #1 is two towers clockwise from right side hold-down screw, #1 is front cyl on engine. Firing order is clockwise.

1997 Jeep Cherokee Sport drops idle


EGR VALVE is carbon up you can clean it by taking it off and using carbon cleaner also replace the sensor for the egr valve. EGR controls idle if carbon up it will cause this problem you explained.
