How hard is it to replace the starter on a 2001 chevy express van
I put a new battery in - but now the engine will not turn over at all when I turn the key - just silence. Tried jumping it to make sure it wasn't a bad battery - didn't work either. I think it may be the started - but I am not sure how big a job that is.

Really shouldn't be bad, you will have to get underneath the vehicle, but once you're there, its basically disconnecting the posotive and negative wires, and 2 to 3 bolts holding it in the motor, after that, its just the reverse procedure for installation, make sure you disconnect the battery before hand, the 12v can give you a good wake up call. Hope that helps

Hi. Is it a key or separate remote based alarm.if it is key based then there may be reset info in the owners hand book. Some cars are reset using the drivers door key barrel, turning left and right to simulate a number series on a pass card. If separate remote, I would try new batteries. Good luck
FIRST TURN OFF RADIO SO YOU WONT LOCK IT OUT.THEN REMOVE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.RAISE AND SUPPORT VAN SAFELY.REMOVE THE HARD SHELL CONNECTOR AT TERMINAL S GRASP THE PLASTIC SHELL.DO NOT PULL ON THE WIRE.DISCONNECT STARTER ELECTRICAL HARNESS.REMOVE THE UPPER STARTER BOLT.SUPPORT THE STARTER AND REMOVE THE LOWER BOLT.REMOVE THE STARTER FROM VAN.THEN WHEN YOU PUT ON NEW STARTER TORQUE BOLTS TO 20 FT LBS.
Start with fuel system. Listen for fuel pump humm at fuel tank No humm check wiring to pump for power. Then check for spark at plugs and wires. Remove wire from coil and hold near engine and see arch when you crank. No arch. Replace ignition Modular inside distributor cap or cap or rotor
i had a similar problem and called the dealer during lunch hour. i talked to a mechanic, the distributor in these vehicles is plastic, and is prone to cracking.not just the cap but the body also, I have been taking the cap off and wiping the moisture out of the cap. or replacing the cap but the problem is I need a new distributor. just a cheep way to get rolling is cleaning the inside of the cap, especially when it is very damp or the outside temp changes alot during the day. good luck.
