Question about 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 2WD
After driving 100 miles or less and the ps system is good and hot, at low rpm the power steering pump makes a whining sound as if it were low on fluid. Other sources recommended change the fluid, I did flush the system and replaced 100 percent of the PS fluid. Noticed increased brake pedal response but fluid exchange did not solve the whine. My next move is to change PS pump, before I shell out the $ for a new pump does anyone know what the PS pump pressure should be if I dead head the system?

these transmissions have three sets of planatery gears the whining you hear is simply the gears doing thier job. You have to remember the allison trans is basically the scaled down version of the heavy duty isuzu truck trans they are designed more for thier load capacity then for comfort

There is no drain plug on an '08 Silverado. The neck is there but it was never threaded and a plug installed. Next best thing, pull the lower hose. Really thats the answer, other than a trip to Mi$ter Goodwrench. I suppose buying the mechanics a new flat screen TV will help their economy.
