If u canged your oil filter and oil and this did not solve your problem there is a check ball in the oil filter housing the may be stuck because of worn spring or gunk build up

PS to previous comment: i HAVE SEEN ONE OIL PUMP (IN A CHRYSLER CAR) DO THIS EXACT SAME THING I found the problem after tearing down entire engine: the pump driveshaft was actually spinning inside the pump gear.It actually was tight enough so it could not be finger turned but when shaft was secured in a vise, gear could be turned with little force using pliers.(first and only one I ever saw like that in thirty yrs...but it shows you...it can happen!

I just purchased a 2000 GMC Savana 3500 with the 5.7 litter engine with 92000 miles on it. The temp gauge shows that the engine is running between 100 - 160 degrees, seems too cold. The oil pressure gauge...

you probably have your finger on the problem. have oil pressure test .when engine hot minimum 12psi.and change the thermostat.Don't cost much

I have a 79 ford f-150 with a 351w modified engine. when i first start the engine it has approx. 65 psi oil pressure. as the engine warms up the pressure slowly drops off to around 12 psi.the oil is clear...

First off its not a 351W modified. you are confusing two different blocks. its either a 351 windsor or a 351m (modified) and if it is the modified its not that bad. these engines are notorious for having low oil pressure. at idle they can be anywhere between 10 and 40. as long as you gain 10 psi per 1000 rpm its fine. and a pump doesnt drop off as it gets warm. it either works or it doesnt, oil pressure dropping off is a bottom end bearing problem

96 jeep cherokee backfire through throttle body

I am going to take a stab at this....as I think you may have a head gasket that has blown out. The head gasket will cause a lil white smoke, and make idling extremely rough. Sometimes water will fill up in the top of the cylinder in the compression chamber when this leak, even minor occurs. That would explain some of the compression issues. Obviously with no compression it will not run properly or even fire if there is water vapor pentrating into chamber mixing with fuel giving you that white smoke/steam.

These are somewhat time consuming to change, but not difficult. The backfiring is caused by the computer trying to compensate for the firing issue. The computer when you change the head gasket is easy to fix. After repairng gasket, try to start the car a few times but not allowing it to run as it will just continue backfiring. Turn key off, let the vehicle set about 30 minutes or so, then go back and the vehicle should run properly again.

Let me know,

Chip

Had new motor put in chevy truck and oil pressure runs below 30ps

At 2000 RPM a new GM engine should be close to 45 psi for oil pressure. It'll drop to mid or high 30's at idle. Hope this helps.

Low oil pressure when engine is under load.

What you describe is signs of a failing oil pump. As the pump gets more and more out of spec the more it will act this way. If the pressure is dropping to the point of knocking plan to install and oil pump in the motor before too long.

You definitely need to put a mechanical gauge on there and check for ACTUAL oil pressure. It is possible that the passageway to the sending unit may be plugged with gunk. If oil pressure is not correct or if in doubt, do not drive it 'till you know for sure what's going on in there. No noises tells me that it is likely not serious but an engine is just too expensive to gamble!!!

Engine knock...

Oil pressure might actually be a bit high for idle. High or low oil pressure in an older engine tends to be indicative of some serious issues. Oil pressure that is too high tends to be a clue that you have serious carbon build up. That aside, have you tried running a higher octane fuel, or perhaps adding an octane booster to your normal grade? Pinging can become knocking in a badly worn engine. One recommendation: At your next oil change try substituting a quart of marvel mystery oil or lucas engine oil treatment in place of one quart of your normal oil. Both have some pretty good track records for helping to free up sticking valves and break up carbon in older engines. I'm an old timer myself, and I personally swear by Marvel for older engines. There is no "rebuild in a can" but Marvel comes close. Give those a shot, let me know what happens.

Low oil psi after driving 25 miles

Have a shop verify the pressure is really low, it could just be the sending unit is defective for the oil press guage, but get it checked, if it really low you could burn out the bearing in your engine, a very costly repair.
