Oddly enough we could not find information on a 98 olds cutlass (canada) but we did find a 98 malibu with the same motor. first there are actually two mounts at the rear... one on each side of the transmission. the part here is actually $243 and labour was quoted to me at 5.5 hours so you appear to be getting a deal.

If you are talking about the transmission mount, which sometimes is called the rear mount the mechanic is right, labor time is 3.5 hours. The part number from GM is 22590932, list price $144.96.

I am changing the serpentine belt on my 1998 olds cutlass and i am looking at a motor mount that looks like it is in the way is it and do i have a major job on my hands and lastly if it is in my way will...

  • Hi, I can help.

  • Fits stick a brick behind each rear wheel and put on the parking break.

  • It's not a big job but you will need to support the engine. Just take a nice piece of wood and gently ease up a floor jack with the wood on it under the oil pan. Just until it touches the oil pan and is nicely secure. Your not gonna attempt to jack up the car just add a little needed support. Make sure the wood expands out each side of the oil pan to avoid any dents on the oil pan.

  • Now take and remove the two mount bolts on that mount right by the serpentine mount (top side of engine). You can remove all four if this makes the job easier for you but you only need to provide enough space for that belt to slide through.

  • The diagram below should be your route for install.

  • if you have any comments please feel free to leave them here.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

How to install a alternator on a 94' cutlass

3.1L Engines - 1998-93 VEHICLES
(see Figures 5, 6, 7 and 8)
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. If necessary for access to the alternator, remove the air cleaner assembly.
  3. Remove the serpentine belt
  4. Label and detach the electrical connector(s) from the back of the alternator.

Fig. 5: After removing the serpentine belt, detach the electrical connector from the rear of the alternator

  1. Remove the rear and front attaching bolts, and unfasten the brace-to-alternator bolt.

Fig. 6: Unfasten the front and rear mounting bolts...

Fig. 7: ... then remove the brace-to-alternator bolt

  1. Carefully remove the alternator assembly, making sure all wires are disconnected.
If the alternator brace is removed, the studs must be retightened before installation or damage to the brace may result.

Fig. 8: Alternator (generator) removal and installation - 1992 3.1L engine shown (click image for zoom)

To install:

  1. Position the alternator into the mounting bracket.
  2. If necessary, attach the battery positive lead and nut to the alternator output terminal. Tighten to 71 inch lbs. (8 Nm).
  3. Install the brace-to-alternator bolt, but do not tighten at this time.
  4. Install the front and rear mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts as follows:
    1. Long bolt to 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm)
    2. Short bolt to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm)
    3. Bracket bolt to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm)
  5. Check that tightening of the brace bolts did not bind the alternator.
  6. Attach the electrical connector(s).
  7. Install the serpentine belt
  8. If removed, install the air cleaner.
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.

Hope helps (remember to rate this answer).

That year Ciera came with two diiferent engines. if you have the 2.5 liter engine it is located under the hood, center, rear engine area, below ingnition coil pack and DIS module, mounted in engine block. If it is the 3.3 liter engine it is located under the hood, passenger side, lower engine area, front of crankshaft pulley, mounted in engine block. i hope this helps you and good luck.

How diffacult is it to replace the lower engine mount 3.1 v6

Not difficult at all, just make sure you have a good jack to lift up the engine, get the old mounting out and install the new mounting. If you donot have enough room to move the eng up then you might need to open the top mounting.

How do I change out headlight bulb on 91 olds cutlass cierra

Behind the headlight, you should see the nylon bulb holder. Turn it counter clockwise, about a 1/4 turn, and it should come out. Pull the old bulb straight out, and replace it with the new one. Don't touch the glass part of the new bulb with bare fingers, or you'll be replacing it again. Use cotton gloves or a paper towel. Put the holder back in the headlight, turn it clockwise until it locks.

When I give gas it affects steering

it sounds like you have a broken engine mount, you will have to check all your engine mounts, especially the rear one, this is a specialised job and recomend going to a mechanic. it may also be your front end bushes, again a specialised area

Engine mount

no its does not cost that much if you do it yourself and if there is a auto store near you check on the part all you would need jack stands and a good floor jack to support the motor while you are lowering it to get the old mount out and then put the new one in also here is a place that sells only GM parts its Schram auto & truck parts The # is 1-800-292-1032 if needed.
