Its always a good idea to replace the thermostat housing every few years as they warp,if you dont have the extra cash you can remove the leaky one,and put the new thermostat in the block put a thin layer of good silicone around the stat, take another thin layer and apply it to the housing then you really dont need a gasket but you can still use one with this method, replacing the old bolts is a good idea also and that way you can tighten them correctly with no fear.have a good day DB

I have a 1995 ford windstar that seems to have a temp. problem. While driving the temp. gauge goes all the way to HOT. The van never overheats but the A/C will eventually start blowing warm air. I flushed...

oddly enough it sounds like a transmission problem, get a transmission shop to assess the problem, but first try replacing the thermostat. be sure to turn on the heater when adding antifreeze. I have had this problem with my windstar.

95 ford windstar 3.8 v6 transmission, no 3rd gear

First thing is to check the fluid level in the transmission, most vehicles have to be running at engine operating temp either in P or N, check your owners manual. Assuming your fluid is where it should be, that vehicle you have sorry to tell you are notorious for transmission failures, by what you described looks like your going to have to replace the trany or rebuild it, either way its not a cheap fix. My advise if the van is in really good condition put a used trany in it and trade it in for something else. You can look anywhere online about customer/ owner feed backs on 88-98 windstar vans and how bad the transmissions are on those Ford didn't get smart till 99 or 00 when they redisgned the drive train. If you keep driving it the way it is the trany will completely fail leaving you on the side of the road somewhere.

98' Ford Windstar has a spongy brake

Have you had anyone try to clean and adjust the rear brakes? You will need a shop to scan the van for ABS codes first to cure the ABS light.
