Re: 1998 ford ranger ignition problem
Do a basic check of the ignition system if you have a cap and rotor take the cap off and take a look.make sure the coil wire is not burnt, remove it and look.but more than likely the ignition control module is bad.you can scan the computer for codes and that might get you closer.hope it works have a good day DB

Sounds like a bad Ignition Module which would cause no firing of the plugs. Pull the #1 plug, put the plug wire back on it and hold the plug (with insulated pliers) to the metal on engine. Then have someone start the truck and see if the plug is firing.
Hi! most likely that you may have a bad sensor or a vacuum leak by the engine. Start the ignition and safely check under the hood, check the engine from top to bottom and see or hear some unusual sound noise, you may also check infront of the rediator, sometimes the leak start there and it gets transfer to the AC compressor. best of luck. Glad to help. Ginskie.
This switch is located under the
right-hand side of the glove box,
just above the carpet.
To reset the switch:
1. Turn the ignition OFF.
2. Check the fuel system for leaks.
3. If no leaks are apparent, reset the
switch by pushing in on the reset
If it's not getting fuel check the interia switch. There is a label under you hood that explains "If vehicle fails to start". The switch is on the passenger side kicker panel behind it. If it accidently getting kicked by a passenger it can turn the fuel pump off. Just check it happens all the time to Ford owners.
