I have a 2005 chevy tahoe...i just bought it, and the transmission still has a pink color to it..but it smells a little burnt...should i do a transmissions fluid exchange or not?

Hi there,

I would have to say YES, YES, YES !!!!

Modern transmissions are an amazing piece of electronic/mechanical machinery, but they rely on a special trans fluid (with special properties) to keep the internal components conditioned, keep pressures up and to prevent premature malfunction from overheating.

Trans fluid can be compared to our own blood - bad cholesterol levels in human blood will cause heart attacks...the same could be said for auto transmissions, containing bad trans fluid.

Until recently, manufacturers were slow to admit that transmission fluids should be changed sooner, rather than later (most manufacturers were/are suggesting changing fluid every 100,000km), but due to the high numbers of trans failures ocurring, it is now being suggested that trans fluid should be changed every 50,000km to be safe.

Remember: use ONLY CHEV APPROVED trans fluid (nothing else) and also change the trans oil filter at the same time. A complete transmission flush is also a good idea, if you intend on keeping the vehicle for a long time.

Cheers,

Where does the tranmission fluid go in the 1994 chevy caprice

you use a funnel and pour it in through the dipstick tube . Keep in mind that the add mark on transmission dipstick is a pint not a quart.

Automatic Transmission shifts late and rough after warm

If it has over 60000 miles it may need a transmission service, which includes a filter and fluid change, fluid may look fine but if filter is clogged and not picking up fluid fast enough when u give it gas the pump spins faster and forces fluid thru to shift, more fluid is needed to shift into higher gear.than to drive

Also do not let tank run low because fuel in tank keeps in tank pump cool. This is why the pump is in the tank.
