THE CRANK SENSOR IS IN THE DISTRIBUTOR IT IS AN OPTICAL PICKUP, THIS IS A PHOTO SENSOR AND MAY BE DIRTY, HAVE U CLEANED IT, THE MOST LIKELY CAUSE OF A NO SPARK IS THE IGNITION MODULE, HAVE U REPLACED THAT YET?

no it is not in the distributor, it is on the outside of it, here is a picture so u can locate it easily. The site I use for parts is rockauto.com, quick delivery lowest prices around. Make sure u put the dielectric grease (little packet comes w/module) on the back of the module or it will overheat and burn out.

I have a 97 dodge average 2.5 v-6 the car attempts to turn over but won't fire, start. I was told by midas it was a spark issue and needed a new distributor. I replaced that still no change

check for spark to make sure the distributor is working. If there is not spark than make sure the distributor is turning. Remove the cap and see if the rotor turns will a helper cranks the engine over. If it is turning than use a test light connected to ground and see if spark comes out of the ignition coil while the engine is being cranked. if there is no spark make sure there is power to the coil. if there is power you may have a defective distributor. if there is no power check fuses.

if the rotor is not turning check to make sure the timing belt is not broken.

I HAVE NO SPARK AFTER REPLACING COIL, DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND ROTOR. WHAT DO I CHECK NOW?

You need to replace the pickup yet. This has wires on it, and is located inside the distributer cap. While this is off, make sure that the distributer is actually rotating when you crank the engine. Check all fuses, check voltage going to the coil with ignition on.

Truck wont start

Check for spark at the distributor if no spark check or replace coil pack. also check to see distributor is turning while engine cranking, if not, possible worn out or broken gear tooth on shaft inside engine.
if distributor turns, check for burnt or worn out points and/or contacts on distributor cap.

Timing is off after having the distributor out, how do reset timing?

you need to remove #1 spark plug and crank engine over with your finger blocking spark plug hole , get someone to crank engine, slow as possible. when you feel the air pressure pass your finger ,. stop cranking engine. you are now close to top dead center. turn harmonic balancer by hand until 0 mark on balancer lines up with mark on engine. you are now at TDC on compression stroke and ready to install distributor. the rotor on distrubtor should be facing #1 spark plug when distributor fully seated.HOPE THIS HELPS. GOOD LUCK.

Im not getting spark to my spark plugs

Remove the distributor cap, so that the rotor is visible. Have an assistant turn the ignition to crank the engine over. If the rotor does not turn when the engine is cranking, then you need a timing belt or chain.

If the rotor does turn, then replace the coil.
