Re: I NEED TO REPLACE THE OIL PUMP ON MY 1998 CHRYSLER...
First of all put the car on ramps and for safety put something behind the rear wheel and then start taking the bolts out of the pan and once the bolts are out use a large rubber hammer to get the pan loose do not use anything to pry the pan off and you see your oil pump

A new oil pump for a Town and Country is only $40-50.00 to buy a new one, and the work you will do to get to it is a lot. Usually it is on the end of the crankshaft, so you get to replace the timing belt too.
the low oil pressure light can be a faulty oil pressure sensor. But mostly its the pump itself. open the oil pan and check if the net is chocked if not then replace the oil pump and do install the new o ring supplied with the pump. And try changing the oil on time and a good brand is important. (if the problem still exists then u need to replace the crank barring and the cam bushings..Just kidding).
Drain cooling system, remove the timing belt if necessary. Remove water pump mounting bolts. Separate water pump from water inlet pipe and remove.
Replace water pump if it has damage or cracks to pump body. Check the shaft seal for any leaks as evidence by traces of coolant from vent hole. Check for any impeller rubbing inside pump, and for loose or rough bearings.
Clean all gasket and "O" ring surfaces. Install NEW "O" ring on water pipe (wet "O" ring with water to aid assembly). DO NOT allow oil or grease to contact "O" ring. Install NEW gasket on water pump, and install pump inlet opening over water pipe. Install pump-to-block bolts and tighten to specification 18 FT. Lbs. (25n.m). To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
