Their is a shrot in the colum
if you put in a toggle switch, run directly from the battey and use a nob that way you can cotrol the speed just by turning it

try this fix
remove wiper arms from where they connect on car
turn wiper moter on then off. turn ignition off
if wiper motor is good it should put spline in off position and now all you need to do is replace wiper arms in the correct position they would be in when wipers are turned off

My 2001 chevy corvette windshield wipers come on randomly, when the switch is in the off position while driving?? sometimes they stop, then come back on. thank you for any help in advance!

There was a recall a few years back for this issue to most of the GM cars. The circuit board in the wiper motor would crack and cause an internal short which can cause your wipers to work randomly and at other times will not work at all. Simple test is to lightly tap the wire harness at the wiper motor unit and see if there is any abnormalities in the function of the wipes.
If there is no issues, then it may be the wiper switch it self that may be faulty. But in most cases it's going to be the circuit board that will need to be replaced or re-soldered as to what GM has done to solve the problem.
Thank you for using fixya and be safe.

The windsheild wipers only work occassionally

Most likely the wiper motor, when it stops working, bump the wiper motor to see if it will start working,if it does, the wiper motor is bad,it does not always work, bumping the wiper motor, but if it does not, then check to see if it is getting voltage to the wiper motor, and if it is,the wiper motor needs replacing.
