Usually on fords the inertia switch is on the passenger side up under the dash on the firewall, not positive on the explorer but on other fords i have worked on that is the location.

How do i reset switch on a 1992 Ford XLT Truck 150

Hello David Durgan,

know I'm getting old... but "RESET SWITCH" brings to mind the inertial SUV roll over switch... that FORD equipped as a combined result of bad tires, shaky engineering...and shabby tires...
WHERE (passenger side foot-well (top) of EQUIPPED FORDs)
a lot of blood & tears .. tragedy & catastrophe befell SUV
owners & families.

- flipping...

My problem... 1992 seems a bit early... even for OBD...
(on-board diagnostics).

Humor an old man and continue with a better description of precisely what you are talking about "RESETTING" ...(??)

Because just about EVERYTHING pre- 1992 could be RESET by disconnecting the negative side of the battery...

While you are there
Cleans those posts... put on those red/green anti-oxidation (corrosion) battery post washers (about $2)...

Drive safely & have a Very Happy New Year!

I just checked... Rockauto shows your switch
((check the top if the passenger-side foot-well)
((push down)).

The inertia switch that you are looking for is underneath the passenger floorboard carpeting, on the firewall.

My 2004 manual transm Ranger sometimes stalls while driving, and will not start unless I press the fuel pump reset button, sometimes called "enertia" switch. I do not get any check engine lights when this...

the inertia switch is only supposed to trip in the event of impact, so unless you are off roading or otherwise jolting the vehicle - the switch may be failing.....

Ford explorer xlt front end collision won't start

Could be 2 things. One would be the inertia switch. And the other would be the factory alarm system. Does the "SECURITY" or "THEFT" light flash when the key is turned on?
For the inertia switch, you will need to locate the switch and press the button on top of it to reset it. Good luck, hope this is helpfull.
