Question about 1990 Jeep Cherokee Limited

1 Answer

Wont start! I have a 1990 jeep cherokee sport with the good old 4.0L inline 6. I was driving down the road and the motor died. It cranks but wnt start. Had low oil pressure even when I installed a mechanical oil guage but never gave me any trouble before. The motor never chattered or tapped at all before it died. Could this be a crank sensor or something like that? I definately need some help on this.

It is a possibility that the cps is bad. but also check to see if your car has a safety which will shut the car off if the oil pressure drops to low some vehicles have an automatic shutoff to save the engine. have you checked for codes the cps will throw a trouble code if it is bad, usually. check all your basics as well adequate fuel, spark etc. hope this helps some

How to fix 1999 jeep cherokee sport

You mean it cranks but does not start, right ?
The NoBus on the display means the cluster is not talking to the computer. That could be a wiring problem or a component problem.
Have you checked the engine computer for trouble codes ?

1995 jeep grand cheerokee laredo 6 cyl. randomly dies then takes anywhere from five minutes to hours to restart

The only component I know of, that shuts a Jeep off while idling or driving 40mph down the road, is a bad crank sensor. Usually when it starts going bad, it will sporadically shut off, like yours does. Eventually, it will just die and the Jeep will not start at all. Have it tested and replaced, if necessary.

We was going down the road and our jeep shut off and wouldnt crank we changed fuel pump and chaecked our old fuel pump too but it worker and the truck still wont crank it isn't getting any pressure we have...

You say the jeep won't crank-----do you just mean it won't start, but the engine does spin when cranking the starter motor? Have you had the trouble codes read from the ECU? Do you have spark at the plug wires? It could also be the crank sensor on your jeep that's bad.
If your ECU has gone bad, it won't send a signal to the fuel pump relay to turn on, so no fuel pressure. Just a few suggestions.

Have you replaced the crank sensor? There isn't really any way to test it, however it isn't expensive and it is fairly easy to replace. Good luck.

mine also will quit going down the road, and idles high at times, or idles low, like having a mine of it's own. possibly idle air speed solenoid (which i replaced on mine) and still does this. another tech said only factory solenoid will "talk" to ecm properly?
