I have a 1999 Ram B 1500 Van, auto transmission, 5.9 L engine.
Same problem, trans hesitates in 2-3 upshift, sometimes 1-2
to 2-3 upshift. Posts trouble code P1756 - Transmission Govenor pressure too low at below 15 to 20 Psi. Transmission pump shot or valve body leak stops trans from reaching proper pressure to shift, which is minimum 15 Psi.
Either trans is leaking in valve body, valve is stuck, shift solenoid on valve body is sticking, or pump is shot.

What is causing transmission to only work in 2nd and 3rd and reverse.? in 2nd and 3rd it feels like its trying to downshift into 1st. In 1st there is a little resistance but it doesnt move

How does your transmission fluid look and smell? If it is dark and smells a little burnt, the transmission is very likely toast. If it is still clear and red, you should let a transmission specialist diagnose it.

Having trouble with the trans (1989 jeep cherokee). bought a new tps (bdw)and it gives me 4.27v input and .36 v output. Any suggestions ?

how many miles is on the trans, what condition is the fluid in (red, brown, black, burnt smell, metallic shavings, etc). could be shift solenoid for 3&4 or the trans could be going bad! if the fluid smells burnt, looks black, milky, or full or metal then the trans needs to replaced, or completely overhauled, all clutch packs, steels, solenoids, etc, and possibly sunshell, and planetary set!! Good luck hope its a simple solenoid and you can just drop the pan, change it out and be done! some trans have vacuum hoses that run shift points and such, but if 1&2 are fine then im thinking vacuum and TPS is fine! and the TPS will vary voltage as the butterfly opens and closes

It wont shift from 2nd to drive, it is an automatic trans. have tried to manually shift & that does not work either.

dont specify what year or type vehicle u have-----first check fluid for level also check color and smell if not reddish [brown or darker]possible internal problem such as a burnt clutch pack or band also if smells burnt something went or is going bad --- newer cars/trucks have solenoids built into trans sometimes a check engine light will come on and advise of a trouble code for the trans electrical problems other problem is something went internal with the fluids sometimes a trans filter replacement fixes if not to far gone

My 99 jimmy service engine light came on. The computer says component in transmission slipping. It shifts hard from 1st to2nd after the tranny warms up. What causes this

Hi, I am assuming the code is a p1870, this code is for an internal slip condition. Check the trans fluid, It should be full, and clean. If it smells burnt, there is a good chance there are burnt clutches, or a burnt band in the trans. From experience, I think this is something you should have checked at a trans shop with a scanner. The trans is probably in need of an overhaul. Good luck...

Just replaced trannie(auto) in 1993 escort, it has a little hesitation when shifting gears and the new oil smells burnt and is frothy on the tip. the level is low could the low fluid level be the problem?

YES! But your tranny has a BAND for first gear, and clutches for 2nd, third, and if equipted, 4th. The bands are usually the cause of the "burnt smell." The foam is cause by fluid aggitation. DO NOT JUST ADD FLUID. Drain the fluid in the tranny case, and replace the filter, and the fluid. I suspect that the salvaged tranny may have a burned 1st gear band.

2004 silverado tranny acting up starting w/ 2nd gear, revs up at about 1800 rpms like it goes into neutral, reverse and 1st gear work fine, fluid level over full and smells burnt and looks dark, was...

Burned clutches I know you said they just seviced it but i would take it back if its still under warranty. Just by what you said the tranny is slipping and the burnt smell is an indication of burnt clutches. The rev up is a sure sign its slipping.

Rough shifting automatic transmission on Honda Accord from 1st to 2nd gear

it has a problem with the second gear drum it cracks and does not fully engauge the n shifts to 3rd ..many honda owners also learn the 8 bucks a quart is the only fluid to pour in a honda..but remember 3 qaurts per drain and fill the tranny holds 7q will take a case to do a drain flush...a high pressure flush will ruin a automatic tranny with alot of miles or metal deposits floating around inside..DRAIN AND FILL 3 QUARTS AT A TIME NO GASKET NEEDED ITS BUILT AND DESIGNED LIKE A MANUAL TRANNY

Wont shift out of 1st

It sounds like the bands inside the transmission are burnt. one way to check is pull you trans dipstick and smell the fluid and see if it smells burnt and the fluid should also be bright red. i have burnt a few trans myself and they did
