Question about Renault 181

7 Answers

Renault Master Van has done just over 130 000km however a just over 100 000km I had to constancely had to keep topping up with oil and ever time i took it in I reported it but renault mechanics in perth kept coming up with other problems. ie: replace turbo, EGR valvue, which resulted in blown motor ($20 000) through improper diagnosis. I now have my livelyhood in jeopardy as nobody wants to help in this delemia. Is their anyone else that has had the same kind off problems?

If your engin is consuming oil, do a compression test. Even is the engine is relatively young ring wear is the most common cause for engine consuming oil.

It sounds like it might be seized.as this is quite not possible that the motor gets blown out for just more then 130,000 kms.i suggest you to get it checked at other diagnosis center.as its very costly issue of getting motor replaced.also get the motor checked particularly.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Most Renaults in my country are imported vehicles and often are through the gray market. Parts are rather difficult to get by. Most mechanics and repair shops would rather replace the engine than do an 'overhaul'/rework. Based on this, perhaps your next move would be to source such an engine from 'wreckers'.

Incidentally, there is another member of the FixYa community who is based in Australia and is knowledgeable on engines and mechanical. We actually have an on-going research project on possibility of replacement components from an Australia versions that would be transplanted for Malaysian use of a 2002 Lexus Soarer SC430 JDM. Perhaps you could contact him as well. Pls click here to view that thread/discussion.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Before we discuss this i would advize you to download the repair manual :

http://www.scribd.com/doc/2522968/Renault-18-Fuego-Repair-Manual

Now, Regarding the Renault Master Van blown motor ,

no life in blower normally means thermal resistor shot completely.they seem to break down gradually-you slowly lose one blower speed at a time.as i described before you will need to access blower via engine bay.re.move soundproofing around blower box-its sortof a black padded material-think about 5 bolts.undo electrical connections on right hand side of box.undo cable clamp that is on right handside.you now have a black plastic box in front of you.4 bolts hold this box to the engine bulkhead.they re i think 10 or 12mm and you will need a long extenstion bar and universal joint to access-its tight there and i have small hands..one bolt at the front.you can now carefully remove box by jiggling the box to he right acros the engine-you may need to disconnect some rubber vent pipes to do this.you will need patience.when the box is out, undo seven bolts and it splits in half and here you,its the blower motor with thermal resistor alongside....

You are going to have a difficult time finding advice on this vehicle. I am just being honest with you. You may get advice here, but you should really bring it to a dealer. One that has experience with the engine in your vehicle.

How to change alternater on master van

renault master van yes i have done one but its awkard and in my old age iam getting confused with peugeot boxer but if i remember rightly this is the one with the big engine something like a 3 litre and to get to the alternator you have to remove the front of the van and the rad out to get to it .not a nice job ,its not difficult but time consuming and the customer got the hump because of the labour charge involved as i fitted new brushes which cost like 7 euros but the time involved was like a good day ,rusty bolts and the like as it was a UK registered van over here on holiday unlike the local spanish motors which do not corrode up

Renault master van .clutch pedal sticks on way back up then drops to the floor

I had this problem with my van, the pedal eventually looses presure and drops to the floor, dependent on the engine you have it effects the repair cost, mine is the nissan 3.5 140bhp engine, which has to be removed from the van so as to access the grear box to change the part (which costs about £123.00) the final bill came to a staggering £650.00! apparently i was told by the mercanic at renault that it is quite a common problem

Oil transfeering in the cooling water circuit

I am not 100% certain on the above statement but it sounds like you mean there is oil in the cooling system. If this is the case, it sounds like a blown head gasket. This is can cause more problems if you continue to drive, so I advise it goes to a garage ASAP.

Steering really heavy on my renault master van

Hi

Sounds very much like a loose, or split pulley drive belt.

Open the bonnet and check, I am pretty sure this is where the problem lies.

You just need a new belt !

Good Luck !

Please give me a FixYa rating Please !
