Question about 2006 Chevrolet Venture

2 Answers

99 venture has warning lights on at different times overheating,

Sometimes my venture overheats, just had a new rad installed. It has check engine light on , and now the Abs light. Don't know what to make of it. After my mechanic installed the new rad, I had the rad light on as well. The dealer said it needed a new head gasket , but the independent guy said just needed a new rad. Now I think the battery is having problems. At this point I've spent over $700 on the repair, and wonder if I should spend anymore?

Head gasket can be check by looking if our engine oil is like creamy color or if you open the radiator cap be carefull if you open when hot when the engine running if you see bubble coming out of radiator even after the engine cooling fan start that mean compression is escaping by a damaged head gasket its verry expensive remove head send out to get them strait reinstall $1,500.00 here in canada i hope its not that i did one last week head gasket blown engine was missing bubble in the radiator missing prestone what a mess i wish you the best of luck pierre p.s our rad light is because our missing prestone abs is probably our brake system i know its imposible to give you a fixya i hope i receive one good lock

What would make my 1997 Buick century to keep over heating I have replaced head gaskets and put in new thermostat

Let's start with the simple and make sure the coolant mixture was 50/50 and not 100% coolant. That will make it overheat.
Second, thing I would check is if there's a code for your catalytic converter or oxygen sensor. If your converter is clogged, then it builds back pressure that overheats the engine.
Hopefully that helps. That's all I can think about without actually having done the head gasket replacement myself or having inspected the vehicle. And make sure the heads were resurfaced and inspected as well.

How can we stop the vehicle from overheating?

check to make sure the rad coolant fan is operating, then if its okay get a head gasket test done as it may have a problem.

Im having issues with over heating ...i changed the thermoustat the radiator cap and it cant be my pump cuz im getting flow what could be happening ....oh this didnt happen untill i got my three belts

are you sure the dash guage is not fibbing, many do on old cars.

use a pyro gun and not guess.

sure overheating makes any engine run bad, and misfire.

and even can warp the head. engine will ping hot too. (bad happens)

correlation is not always causation. (find truth first, then lay blame)

but do check for missing belts and loose belts or routed wrong.?

The RaD TUBES must not be clogged. a 94 is a very old car.

we use a $20 IR pyro gun to see if rad core tubes read the same

top and bottom if NOT, they are cloggled. 5min work on a hot engine. (harbor fright sells 3 guns all 3 work like MAGIC)

is the RAD full of 50% AF coolant> , look in the RAD hole, not the side overflow clear tank (useless to look there now, many are bad, ask why)

pump most flow. sure.

thermosat not backwards or upside down and bleed hole must be UP

radiator core or the A/C cond. core up front must not be packed in leaves or bugs. or dirt. clean it.

also a weak clogged rad, will overheat when a bad running engine goes into limphome mode, (retarded timing sends tons of extra heat to the water jackets , when this happens, ask why technically)

so you have 2 things wrong, both add up to overheating.

I can demonstrate this .

Is the check engine light off, running and not overheated yet.?

does it overheat moving and parked.?

or only parked. or both?

if it never overheats moving fast , the fan is no good.

if it only overheats parked, the fan is bad.

so when it overheats and when not, is a key bit of evidence..

test the fan, the FSM covers this check. for all cars.

I was told this van has plastic gaskets that go out alot easier than the standard gaskets. They will make your van overheat. almost had to do this on mine. Lucked out and it was water pump.

The engine in my 99 venture van wont stop overheating?i have put a new thermostat in and assured that the cooling fans are working properly??anyone???

Your water pump may be defective. The impellor may be loose. When the engine is cool, open the rad cap & start the engine. As it heats up & the thermostat opens, look in the rad and see if you have enough circulation of fluid. If not, change the water pump. Check to see if the rad fins are not loose & in good shape. If not, change the rad. Pressure test the rad cap in order to make sure it is holing the proper pressure. Hope this Helps you. Good luck!

My '99 Tiburon is overheating quite frequently. Coolant is full, but when idling it overheats 3 out of 5 times.. All answers are must appreciated, thanks.

try changing the fan sensor switch on the cylinder head ,also the thermostat ,but again without my head under the bonnet its difficult to diagnose as it coulod be the rad blocked ,quick measure is to turn heater on full on screen and this should cool the engine if its a blocked rad or a jammed thermostat .

Toyota pick up overheating. Recently,

It could be a bad thermostat, the Clutch Cooling Fan is not engaging or you may have air in the cooling system still and it need to be bled out.

Still overheating after head is skimmed

waterpump? No movement of water/coolant, engine overheats. Engine overheats, warp heads. Next time you rip a head off, check gasket to see if head gasket failed or if there is a different cause to car overheating.

I have a 2000 cadillac deville

You can rent a cooling system preasure tester at a parts store. These engines run so close to boiling that they must be able to hold presure or they overheat. Presurize the system and check for even the smallest leaks at all hose connections. I fought this problem for a long time before I figured it out.
