YOU HAVE A MAJOR LEAKING ISSUE IF IT DRY ALL AROUND THE WHEELS AREAS THEN YOUR POPORTING VALVE ARE YOUR MASTERCYLINDER IS BAD POSSIBLY LEAKING IN TI YOU BOOSTER HOLE WERE IT BOLTS UP

I have replaced 3 of 4 disc calipers on my pt cruiser. I have bleed brakes on all 4 calipers and have good brake pedal until I start the car.When I start the car the brake pedal goes to the floor.


Are you loosing brake fluid after you tighten that bleeder screw back? Your brake booster helps aid in the vacuum of the car - if you have an internal issue with that brake booster - you should check any vacuum lines coming off that booster. If you can answer with your year, make and model I can get you a more in depth answer - there are other things that can be causing your issues as well - from the master cylinder to other things. Good Luck. There's also a way to test that brake booster - do you have a pressure/vacuum gauge?

I am working on a 1993 f-350 with a 7.3 diesel the truck came to me with the brake pedal going to the floor... the customer had already put 3 new master cylenders on it along with a new brake booster......


I would ask where you got the master cylinders from. Were they new, or rebuilt? If the front brake pads look good and no apparent problems from the calipers, it can only be 2 problems. First, is there a leak somewhere in the system. If you have confirmed that there is none, then the master cylinder is 'bleeding' from front to back. Air wouldn't be a problem as you seem to have bled the brakes well, but the only sure way to know is using a bleeder. They run from a simple hand vacuum device to an air powered device which forces brake fluid thru the system.
Since your 'customer' replaced the booster, make sure the plunger rod is set correctly. Perhaps it is not set at the correct length, in which case you will never get a pedal. Diagnosis for this is a pressure tester to see if any pressure is being generated by the calipers.

I have a 1991 honda civic dx seadan. i change the brake caliper and the power booster and master cylinder and bleed the brakes with the car engine off. but when you turn the car on the brake pedal go...


There's still air in the lines, just open the bleeder screws all of them and gravity bleed them , take the resovoir cap off and make sure you keep fluid in it . This may take some time but you will be happy when done. If you bleed them with a friend do one at a time pump the pedal, keep pressure on pedal and open the bleeder screw. when pedal goes to the floor repeat the process until its only fluid that exits the bleeder. Repeat this for the rest of the bleeders.

How to trouble shoot the brake system?


To trouble shoot the brake system you have to check:AntiLock Brake System ABS:
Hydraulic Modulator
Basically this unit holds steady or bleeds off pressure in brake line, as necessary, when the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) detects an abnormal deceleration in the speed of the wheel. On 2000 and later models the EBCM and Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) are mounted on a bracket attached on the left strut tower.
Wheel Speed Sensors, brake fluid level, brake hoses and lines, inspect and replacement, Brake hydraulic system-bleeding, Brake light switch, check, adjustment and replacement.
Disk brake caliper, disk brake pads, drum brake shoes, master cylinder, master cylinder reservoir, O-rings replacement, parking brake adjustment, parking brake cables inspect and replacement, parking brake shoes-replacement, power brake booster, check or replacement, wheel cylinder inspect and replace.

Brakes go to floor changed master cylinder to no avail still to the floor


ok there are a few things you need to check.. you said you changed the master cylinder.. did you bleed the braking system after???

  • remove from wheel,,
  • locate bleed valve on caliper / or unscrew one of the lines
  • pump brake and push right down and hole,,
  • repeat plugging the lines with your finger ,,
  • repeat the above 2 steps a few times
  • tighten the bleed screw while holding the brake right down..
if that fails ...

if that fails try adjusting the brake up.. its on the rear tires,, remove one and them remove the shield protecting the brake shoe,, see the turn bolt that adjust the pistons,, adjust that a bit until the brake is in the desired position..

check your disc pads to see if its wron out..

check your booster / change it..

Brake petal goes to floor


if you cant find any leaks in lines or cylinders or calipers u probaly have a bad booster
see lots come threw my shop like that but also their is a vacum line that runs to the booster and it hooks to a plastic valve that goes in to the booster those get gloged and you loose pedal as well try replacing that before you bye a new boooster

My vote would be the Master Cylinder.
I had a truck sit for 4 years. After getting running again, it did the same thing you're describing. No brakes. I ended up replacing the Master Cylinder to fix the problem. Just make sure you bleed the system real good.

Hi,
Check the Brake master pump......If the padle drops to the floor means The booter is ok,,,,! I think the Brake master pump has a internal leak.....Reply me.....
