Remove the front door trim panel (23942) and front door trim shield (237A04) from the front door (20124). Refer to Section 01-05 .
Disconnect the front door latch actuating rod (22152) from the handle link connector.
Remove one nut and screw.
Remove handle and pads from door.

this is a common problem with VW door handles, but an easy fix!!! The door handle needs to be replaced as the fork that lifts the lock has broken off or cracked. Depending on the model it is easy to remove the door handle. spring off the Crome mld on the front and on the slam side of the door behind the rubber u will find a phillips screw. Under the crome mld is the other.
On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle,
arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the
panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want
to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to
get it off the window ledge. Pull back the weather seal and you'll be able to get to everything. Either the bolts holding the outer handle on has broken or fallen out, or the handle anchor (plastic) has broken
R/F door trim will have to be removed. Most likely you will find linkage disconnected from the inside latch of the outside door handle. You might even find a broken piece of the door handle requiring replacement
