Yep! There is a tool that you can buy. It is a freeze plug tool. That is the actual name. Basically it is a bent shaft with different size cups that attach at the end for the different size freeze plugs. It will be easier to install with this tool and using an impact hammer at the base of the tool allows you to just slide that bad boy right on in! Saves A LOT OF HASSLE! And works every time, now aren't you glad you asked?
Please remember to rate this solution.

The only place I have seen them is from proffesional tool companies like, Mac Tools, Snap-on etc.. BUT, you may be able to go to your local auto parts place and rent one for free. We have Auto Zone here in New Orleans. A lot of the parts places operate similar though. The only drawback is that the tool you rent may be a piece of junk from others abusing it. Don't give up. You went this far, you will get it. Most people would have thrown the towel in at the timing belt part. If you can get your fingers in the hole, use a piece of emery cloth or fine sandpaper to smooth the inside of the hole and remove some of the outside rust so you can see what you are doing. Brake parts cleaner in a can will remove all of the oil. Take your time, apply a bit of WD40 or penetrating oil and drive it on in the hole! Good luck!

1985 cadillac coupe deville freeze plugs

Yes a freeze plug could be leaking, or it could be the head gasket higher up.
And the engine would run hot if the radiator is low on coolant.
You may have to use a lift to get under and see the source of the leak.

Water Pump

If you have the NorthStar 4.6L engine this is going to be the easiest water pump you ever done and even if you have not. Auto Zone will be able to help they have a special tool for removing and replacing it. I would suggest replacing the hoses when you do this also. When you get the pump you will also need a O ring for the pump cover, and a new thermostat. get the proper antifreeze also.
Auto Zone should also have some instructions with pic's to help you.. email me if you have any questions.......
