Car takes a few seconds to start & shuts off immediately

I have a 2003 dodge durango. It takes a few seconds to start and shuts off immediately, sometimed with the accelerator pressed. Once I get it started, I have to give it gas for it to stay on. Once I take my foot of the accelerator, it shuts off immediately. Can anyone please help with this problem? Thank you.

I replaced the battery but the problem still exists. Do you have to reset anything after replacing the battery?

I had a similar problem. if its not the same then forget it, but if the car is making a hissing sound then one of your vacuum lines could be popped out. i have an explorer and the car would start and shut off if i didnt press the gas, it turns out one of my vacuum lines were out, i ziptied all of mine on lol.

How old is your battery? because if it is weak the idle air control solenoid will not sit in the right location thus the vehicle will stall and wont stay running .replacing a weak battery will fix this problem .

A wild guess. Take off distributor cap and see if the rotor has cracked/broken.

Someone tried to steal my 2003 dodge durango and messed up the ignition but it starts for 5 seconds

The vehicle isnt reading the chip in the key. Your best bet is to take it to a professional. This is common if a valet key is used. Make sure you are using the correct key.

My dodge durango(2003) shut off on me when i was driving yesterday. Engine cranks but doesn't start. Relays and fuses are all good. any ideas?

It sounds like the fuel pump has failed, I'd start by checking the fuel pressure. Turn everything off so you hear whether on not the fuel pump runs when you turn the key to "on". The pump should run for 3-5 seconds and the stop and it won't start running again, until you turn the key to "start".

2003 Dodge Durango makes a funny noise when the ignition is turned both off and on. Sounds kind of like an annoying hum. Stops after a couple of seconds.

Usually the humming or buzzing noise you hear at start and turning off is the fuel pump being activated or shut down.

4urango will not stay running

Check your IAC (Idle Air Control Valve). Also inspect your EGR valve. Check your fuel pressure should be in the range of 25-35PSI. Make sure your fuel filter is not clogged. Check spark plugs and wires

Replaced battery, problem still exists

Te battery is most likely not the problem. I would start buy looking into the ignition system. (coils, plugs wires, ignition module.

Then I would look into the fuel system (check to make sure the fuel pump is work (check fuel pressure etc..)

If these are both in good working order post another question

2003 dodge durango stuck in park.

it is your interlock solenoid or switch on your brake pedal. This keeps you from starting your car in anything but park.
