If by bypass you mean the ignition switch. jump it at the relay, find the starter relay the relay should have a diagram on the side and numbered posts on the bottom with a jumper wire you can jump the post in the power distribution. look at the diagram there should be a switch which shows normally open you need to jump the posts that would close this switch and this will jump you starter make sure you key is on to start the vehicle. hope this helps some

2002 Saturn SL1 - won't start, turn over, starts fine with jump

Have the alternator and battery checked. The battery may not be holding a charge. The alternator may not be charging the battery,it should put out between 14 and 15 volts, any less the alternator is bad.

98 GMC Safari has power but won't start

Have you checked battery voltage? (12v or better)
Check voltage at main starter cable (should be almost same reading, but not substantially lower (11.8 ok) Then check power to small terminal on starter...with key turned to "start" it should have 12v. If you have these readings and block ground is clean and secure, it's likely that starter has failed. If no power to small wire, either ignition switch or a relay is bad.(on stick vehicles add clutch switch) You can jump starter across large & small terminals and this will generally get it started. Do this with key "on" and vehicle in park (neutral on stick shift with brake on)

98 saturn sl2 won't start

if all it does is click with a new battery it is not the alternator because all the alternator does is charge the battery i would take the starter or selinoid off if it isnt built in with the starter and have it tested the same as you did the battery

98 saturn sl1 won't start

if you have good battery voltage at this time, and when you banged on the starter and then the car cranked over, it would appear you have a defective starter. i would imagine if you replaced it in july of last year that it could still be under some sort of warranty, so i would look into that. either way, it sounds as if you need a new starter.
