SOURCE: I can pour gas into

That should be a TBI (Throttle Body Injection) and not a carburetor. I think 85 was the last year for Carbs in S trucks (2.8L).

You should be able to hear the pump run for about 2 seconds when you first turn the key on (wait a few seconds when turning the key off and on to hear pump run). If you don't hear the pump run then there could be a bad relay or its circuit.
The relay should be on the firewall. Have a helper listen for a relay to click. A person can even feel a relay click when the key is turned on if its working. The computer sends a ground signal to the relay to activate it.
But the oil pressure switch also is part of the circuit. When the truck has oil pressure the switch will send power to the fuel pump.
So even if you had it running with gas being poured in the TB, that could have been long enough to build oil pressure (as long as the switch is good)

Then check your connections at the sender. There is also a ground wire on the frame. I think it is near the filler hose just about behind the bracket the bed sits on. Make sure there is a good ground.

You can look up free diagrams at autozone.com. All you have to do is register and that is free as well. That should help you follow the circuit for the pump.

I ran out of gas. Put in gas. Now it's turning over but not starting. Should I change the plugs.

If your fuel pump is in the gas tank the fuel pump is cooled and lubricated by the gas. If you run out of gas and keep trying to start it many times you can damage the fuel pump. If you have a older car you can try putting a little gas in the carburetor and see if it cranks, if it cranks with gas in carburetor you know it is a lack of fuel problem. You might try spraying starting fluid in air filter but to much can damage your engine. Some links below may provide some help.

Your vehicle fuel pump can run and pump gas but depending on your vehicle you may not have enough fuel pressure to run. I would check your fuel pump fuse and relay and fuel inertia switch/fuel pump kill switch if you have one. I do not know why running out of gas would cause them to fail but it is something to check.

Nobody has messed around with the ignition timing in any way?

If it has stood for a long time(i.e years..) the fuel may have degraded to the point that it\'s useless.

The carbs will smell of fuel, but are you sure that fuel is being pumped to them in sufficient quantity? Try disconnecting a fuel line, crank the engine a few revolutions to see if fuel is pumped out.

Try gravity feeding the carbs. Use a can of fuel connected to the carbs, held above the engine. Get somebody to crank the engine and see if it fires up. If the engine fires up, suspect the fuel pump.. or fuel lines.

An air leak can also cause non-starting. The usual cause is the inlet manifold gasket. Any air leaking through the gasket can cause your non-starting problem. Go back and check that no dirt has been picked up by the gasket before you fitted it/it hasn\'t been ripped. Check that the inlet manifold has been correctly tightened.

It doesn\'t sound as though you have much of a problem .. more of a \'niggle\'.

When I accelerate fast it wants to turn off like gas is not going through

The internal pump is won out. replace it.
Q: Where and what is the internal pump?
A: It's a tiny pump inside the carburetor. It looks like the toilet plunger.

I replaced the battery the 98 ford expedition still won't start it will crank but will not turn over

If it is fuel injected check for fuel pressure at the fuel rails. If it has a carburetor then try pouring a little gas in the carburetor and see if it will start. If you have no pressure at the fuel rails or the motor starts after adding fuel directly then the problem is the fuel pump.

My 98 Nissan Altima won't start. It has a brand new starter, brand new spark plugs, a new alternator, and a new battery, so I know it has nothing to do with any of them. The distributor was replaced at...

seems as if the system isnt priming itself when you first move the key to ON in which the fuel pump would kick on for just a moment to prime the carb with fuel if it doesnt sound like the fuel pump is starting at that moment there might be a problem with the fuel pump or a relay going to it or maybe a fuse relating to the fuel pump
