This is part of the gear position switch on top of the trans where the shift linkage connects, it is mounted over the selector post that sticks out of the trans. Here is a picture.

I have a 1995 pontiac grand prix sometime it will start and sometimes it won't. i thought it was the starter solenoed so i bought a new starter but it is still doing it. when i turn the key everything...


Given the age of the car I'd check the neutral safety switch and the shifter linkage it could be causing the neutral safety switch to get a bad reading. After that I'd check the ignition switch itself. I don't remember if the '95 had a starter switch relay but you might check that too.

Neutral switch


If its an automatic,,It will be at the shift selector on the transmission ,, location is drivers side under the master cylender brake booster straight down it will be black in colour and triangular in shape it will have wires coming from it ..If its an Manual trans..Its under the dash attached to the clutch pedal and or linkage..good luck
