Does it stay on fast idle when choke plate is straight up ? (all the way open)

    350 engine idles too fast

  • Anonymous Mar 24, 2014

always idles really fast and hard to start when warmed up.

  • Anonymous Mar 27, 2014

When you start car,it idles very fast! I tried spraying carberator linkage and that part behind carberator that sets sideways that looks like a kids top with a flat popsickle metal type stick that moves in and out of this part and is hooked to the linkage of carberator! I think this part isn't working as it should because the part moves sluggish. And spraying it with carberator cleaner spray didn't help. What do you think is wrong! Ken.

99 Chrysler Town and Country idles high

Maybe a sticking choke or binding throttle linkage. Have you lifted the aircleaner cover and looked down carb opening? Choke stuck?
Could be a simple idle speed adjustment also. What rpm's do consider to be high. Maybe some carb cleaner down the barrels and throttle linkage could free it up. Again, it could be a simple idle adjustment depending on RPM's it's turning.

1986 toyota truck electric choke

Is it hard to start? The choke has some notches on the side by the electric choke plug...rich to lean...If hard to start cold, loosen choke screws on side and turn the dial toward close (rich) retighten adjustment screws and recheck performance...If choke stays on to long after warm up (idles fast) adjust the choke toward open or lean position. Try no more than 2 notches either way between tests...Hope this helps.

My 85 chevy truck idles real high when you first start it and after 3 minutes you hit the gas and it will idle down to normal could it be out of timing or is there a fast idle screw. tried nothing yet 1985...

thats the electric choke. It warms up the engine so that it will idle properly. It may be sticking. Personally i hate the things and just remove and just hold my foot on the gas a bit when cold starting.

But check and see that the solenoid is not sticking and that the other valves on the carb are not sticking some wd-40 should help.

What kind of carb does the 76 c10 4x4 come with need to adjust

mcdevito75 here, The fast idle is needed when the engine is cold to make the air and fuel mixture rich to keep the engine running while cold, the carb. choke doew this with a bi-metalic spring in that balck round box on the side of the carb, a screw also hepls keep the choke closed until warm up, this screw can be adjusted tpo control how tight it holds the choke cloesed, here"s how to adjust this screw to slow fast idle speed, Locate on the carb, where the gas pedal connects, have a friend operate the gas pedal with the engine off, once you locate the linkage, you"ll also see 2 screws with springs around them, 1 is for fast idle the other for regular idle, you want the fast idle screw, notice this screw will lay against and Half moon shaped tab, while the other screw lays against a shaft, you need the screw that lays against the half moon shaped tab. Start the engine and step on the gas pedal slightly and relaease, at the screw that lays against this half moon, simply turn it counter clockwise or toward you just 1 2 or 3 turns very slowly, you'll hear the fast idle come down but you don"t want the fast idle to low, listen to the engine very carefully, slow it down just a bit, it should still race though but not out of control. Of course for a full carb, adjustment the shop should handle that., but this info will help.

How do i tune a edelbrock 650 carb on a 350

have a shop check the tension on the choke settings in the morning before car is started, and reset fast idle on choke settings, then when car is run and heated up it will trip off the choke settings and fast idle and return back to normal settings

Automatic choke stays on causing engine overheat and poor fuel economy

Hello, when you say that the auto-choke is "on", you mean that the choke plate is stuck closed on the carburetor. This causes an overly rich fuel mixture and fast idle and other problems as you have hinted at. There is a wire that runs from the black cap on the left side of the carburetor that runs to the alternator. On my Festiva, the wire is red in color and its the only wire coming from the black cap with a bi-metal spring inside. You need to check the wire for a short circuit and to test if voltage is getting to it from the alternator. My guess would be that the wire came loose or it is not being powered by the alternator. So get a 12V test light and test the wire leading to the choke spring cap to see where the break in the wire is. Run a continuity test from one end to the other and look for 0 Ohms for a good connection. If you have continuity and good current, then I would say that your bi-metal spring it broken in the choke cap, so you can replace the cap by removing the 3 screws or rivets and replacing it with a new one.

sounds like there is a problem with the automatic choke / or choke unloader vacuum diaphram. Fast idle and curb idle might need adjustments

The idle runs too fast 1983 surburban

check to see if your choke is sticking closed with the engine warmed up remove the air cleaner and look in the top of the carburator if the choke flap is blocking the front two barrels of the carb it is, look for a choke fuse in the fuse box if its good (or you dont have one)on the passenger side of the carb there will be a circular piece with a slot in the center they are usually black.with the key on check for power in the wire that connects to it....if theres power loosen the screws....(if you are lucky it will have 3 screws and not rivets, if rivets you can dril them out and get some screws to replace them) and rotate the assembly until the choke opens (to repair this you will have to replace this round heating element that opens choke).....if the choke appears to be working you can adjust the idle with a screwdriver........look on the driver side of the carb near the base around the throttle linkage there will be a screw you can turn..........clockwise = idle up-counter clockwise = idle down
