Use the key, if it wont turn try jerking the steering wheel in both directions while turning the key, sometimes when the wheel is turned when parked the key lock gets stuck due to pressure on the lock cylinder
Did you program the security system to accept the new key ? It sounds like the linkage from the lock cylinder is worn out to not let the steering wheel lock. I would want to know if the lock cylinder is turning the switch without any extra movement.
The steering wheel was turned when the key was removed. So when you try to turn on the key, turn the wheel one way and the other way to release the pressure on the key. The key should turn ok.
Hope this helps.
Sometimes you can't turn the key to unlock the steering wheel. This is caused sometimes by the steering being in acertain position that places pressure on the mechanism and it locks up. Try turning the steering wheel in the direction that it is already turned toward if this is the case. If not try moving the wheel in the direction it seems has more play while trying to turn the ignition switch.
turn the wheel left or right and see if it turns check the key if it's bent or wiggle the key at the same time it might get frustrating but it might turn had a chevy do it all the time on me.If not you will need a new ignition switch and keys.
Have you tried turning the wheel, then turn the key? Turn it to the left, try to turn key, if no good, try turning wheel to right, then turn key. There may just be pressure on the steering, not allowing the key to turn. Hope it's that simple. Let me know if it works.
