Check engine light on; "hiccupping" acts like gas starved

97 Tacoma,4x4 83K original miles. I have changed the fuel filter, and run injector cleaner about every other tank or so, and put in premium some of the time. Bought it used so I dont know much about maintaince history.

Check engine lights are not maintenance related. Your vehicle’s computer system has self-testing capability. When the computer senses that there is a problem with one of it’s components or sensors it stores the correspondent trouble code(s) in its memory and lights up the "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light to tell you that there is a problem and you should have the car diagnosed and repaired. The light will stay on until the issue that turned it on is fixed.

To be honest with you. You are better off finding a place that will check the code for you. Either for free at a local auto parts store or take it to the dealership. There are about 1000 or more problems that can be throwing your light

What causes my toyota tacoma consume more gas to the mile than normal.

There are several issues that can cause poor gas mileage. I suggest you perform ( or have performed) a tune up. Filters, Fluids, Spark Plugs, Wires, Belts, etc.. & see if that improves your fuel economy...

My engine lights flashes and run roughly like sputtery what could be the problem

Hi:
Usually, the only thing that will make the check engine light flash, is a cylinder misfire. You need to have your vehicle's computer scanned, to see what tripped the code. Most autoparts stores will do this for free. You might have a bad distributor cap, ignition module or related part, but the free code scan will point you in the right direction!

It is unusual to have a real dirty filter. Consider having your fuel tank flushed out. Chances are that the injectors got some of that dirt in it. Get a bottle of a fuel tank additive called seafoam and pour it in the tank. Drive for ten miles and see if it clears up. Generally it will. J.

Misfire in 97 voyager,P0300 and P0304,HELP! Need 2 get inspection

I'd have fuel pressure checked, and at the very least, replace fuel filter. Not unusual to get multiple misfire codes due to low fuel pressure, thus starving cylinder(s), and causing the misfire code(s).

2006 Toyota Tacoma Low Mileage or Not...Spark Plug Life

24 mpg on the highway is actually pretty good for that truck. at 48000 miles and being 3 years old its time for plugs, air filter, and fuel filter if available. thats cheap maintenance for now. but if very self conscious, run some fuel injector cleaner first, then change the plugs, because any octane booster or fuel injector cleaner can run the risk of fouling out a plug, by creating a hotter spark then what, normal gas does. the burn is hotter.
