When i reach the speed of 55 mph the truck sounds like somthing gets stuck on and the rpms are at 3000. so i pulled over cut the engine waited a few seconds and cranked it up and it worked fine so what caused this. thanks, rita
Most likely a stuck overdrive shift solenoid or a faulty vehicle speed sensor.

did the vehicle actually speed up when you noticed the rpms skyrocketing?
does it seem to be shifting okay? It sounds like it may not be engaging the highest gear but is sticking in 2nd or 3rd. Check the transmission for fluid. If it is full and clean, you may have a shift solenoid or a vacuum line problem.
