Question about 1999 Ford Escort
CHECK YOUR VALVE TIMING & COMPRESSION. IF YOU HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT COVER BECAUSE IT HAD A HOLE IN IT THE TIMING CHAINS SHOT & PROBABLY JUMPED & THAT COULD HAVE DAMAGED THE VALVES

This is a timing issue bring the engine to number one on compression stroke this is important and make sur the distributor rotor is pointing at number one if this is correct than check your timing belt and make sure it is lined up right.

Turn the engine by hand to Top dead center on the # 1 cylinder,Pull the distributor cap and see where the rotor is pointing.It should be lined up with the # 1 plug wire on the cap,If it's not,turn the distributor until it is.If you can't turn it far enough,you will need to pull the distributor out and turn one tooth on the distributor gear and reinsert it.
If this it is way off,let me know and I will tell you what to do.
