Question about 1998 Dodge Neon

Open Question

Car died will not restart - 98 Dodge Neon

Ck'd fuel pressure ok. ck'd ignition for spark and had spark on #2 and #3 cyl., had NO SPARK on #1 and #4 cyl. replaced coil pack, still no spark, reinstalled old coil pack. Checked for pulse at coil harness, 2 & 3 had pulse when cranking but no pulse at 1 & 4. Checked wires from coil harness to PCM, NO OPENS. replaced PCM with rebuilt unit from auto computer exchange, ck'd and no spark on any cyl. reinstalled old PCM and got spark again for cyl. 2 & 3. Sent back rebuilt PCM for exchange. While waiting for new PCM, reinstalled old PCM and changed out crank sensor and ck'd, still spark at 2 & 3 nothing at 1 & 4. Checked wires from crank sensor to PCM, NO OPENS.
Received exchange PCM and installed, still have same problem, no spark at 1 and 4, good spark on 2 and 3.
Was told to check out cam sensor but thought cam sensor was related to injector timing mainly. ????
Need some expert help if anyone has a solution or further diagnostics.
Can't afford to keep throwing parts at it. Please respond if you have any ideas or email dougg53 @yahoo.com. Thanks
Doug

SOURCE: car died and will not restart

Have you had your Battery, starter and alternator checked? if starter or alternator bad will drain battery. If battery is bad will damage alternator over period of time. If not changed. Also check your battery cables, make sure your +/- is without corrosion. Possible voltage regulator.Hope this helps..

SOURCE: car has no spark or injector pulse(new ecm, crank sensor)

Check the fuse for the injectors, some vehicles have the injectors and coil running on the same circut, at the same time check the fuse for the ignition.

My 1993 dodge shadow died and wouldn't start back it turns over but won't spark. When I turn the key I get the code 355 or 13 What does this mean

Check the codes again- there are only 2-digit codes. Code 13 is saying "MAP sensor is not detecting any change during self-test". It could be a bad MAP sensor (Manifold Absolute Pressure-the vacuum sensor for the engine), but sometimes it can be a wire harness problem. If a new or known-good Map sensor doesn't fix it, you will need a mechanic to check the MAP sensor circuit.

Usually when an engine dies and won't restart, it is a gas or spark problem. Listen for the fuel pump to turn on with key in on, not start-it should turn on for about 2 seconds to put pressure in the fuel line and up to the engine. If the pump is working, next check for spark at a spark plug wire, with the engine being cranked over. If you have a blue, snapping spark, the ignition is probably good. If no spark, it could be a bad ignition coil, a bad Ignition Control Module, or possibly a bad Crankshaft Position Sensor.

My dodge neon shut off and wont start

What year? First check for spark at any of the sparkplugs. If you have spark and fuel pressure then take the mass air flow sensor off and clean the small thin wires inside with a non-chlronated brake cleaner and let it dry for 10-15 minutes then re-install it and see if it will start.

Car starts but dies after one second of engine running

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

#1 NEED TO VERIFY SPARK AT SPARK PLUGS # 2 CK FUEL PRESSURE AT SCHRADER VALVE ON FUEL RAIL ,,PRESSURE DEPENDS ON TYPE ENGINE ....IF NO SPARK AT SPARK PLUGS CHECK SPARK FROM COIL WIRE , IF NO SPARK AT COIL ,CHECK VOLTAGE TO IGNITION COIL SHOULD BE 12 VOLTS, IF NO VOLTAGE AT COIL ( KEY ON ) CHECK FUSES THEN IGHITION SWITCH. IF NO FUEL PRESSURE AND FUEL PUMP RUNS REPLACE PUMP .. CK VOLTAGE TO FUEL PUMP WHILE CRANKING . CK USING PUMP GROUND WIRE AT THE PUMP CONNECTOR THIS WILL PROVE GROUND ALSO. USE TEST LIGHT TO VERIFY

2006 dodge caravan, 6 cyl. relaced cole, sparkepugs and wires in oct. 2009. Engine is reading #2 cyl. misfire again. Why

Firts time swap spark plug & ignition coil between two different cylinders and read again if the same #2 cyl. misfires !
If #2 cyl. is OK and another cyl. misfires then spark plug or ignition coil is out of order and must be replaced.
If #2 cyl. misfires again then #2 injector must be checked !
If ignition coils & spark plugs (complete set for 6 cyl.) are replaced then you must check #2 injector !

Dead cylinders 2003 sebring

it sounds like you may have the wires on the wrong coil. It should be #1 on the #4 coil, and the #3 wire on the #2 coil. you probably have them backwards so 1 and 3 are firing on the exhaust stroke.
the firing order is 1-3-4-2.
they should be hooked like this.
