2000 Impala: Idles extremly high

We just bought this car.... I love it but it idles very high. When you take your foot off the brake the car takes off. When you go to put it in drive, it jumps bc it wants to go. If your foot is not pressed down hard, you will lose it. Even when idleing, it sounds like someone has their foot pressed on the gas. This causes us to go through a small fortune on gas! Also, it has a tinge of smell like its running hot. I dont know if its because of the ideling or what. The thermostat reads fine but I do occasionally hear bubbling under the hood. Please help! I dont have the money to play the guess and elimainate game. Thanks!!!

First thing to do is check under hood for any "hissing" noises, and check all vacuum hoses are connected properly, and not leaking.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Why my 1987 nissan stanza idles high in park?

Take the idle air control valve off and clean the carbon out of it with a non-chlronated brake ceaner then let dry 10 minutes and re-install.Reset the computer afterwards by disconnecting the ground cable on the battery for 30 seconds then re-install.

2000 Impala:Hard start and couple times Idles extremly high

The car has OBD2 technology, You wont be able to tell without special tools. The ignition components, timing, CKP & CMP sensor, fuel line pressure, misfires, and fuel quality all need to be looked at. But to answer your question, "over 3x cranking' could be timing or fuel pressure. A bad IAC would cause a rough idle, and if the injectors were bad then it would cause a misfire too.

Engine will not idle down

Hi have a nice day!
Your model is equipped with Vehicle Speed Sensor System.
I think it would be better to take it to an authorized service station to check it's operation.
