is the steering wheel in locked position try wiggling the steering wheel at the same time you wiggle the key in the ignition, graphite past is also good in freeing up the key way you can get it at your local parts store
sound like you might need to change the key switch .could be that plunger rod from switch to ignition switch may be lose. Best way to determine the problem is to take it apart and take a look. had the same problem and mine was the key switch.... hope this helps and good luck...
Try using a pair of thin, long-nosed hemostats if you can see the key remnant. If you can't see the remnant, don't take the wheel off. Call a mobile locksmith; he can usually help for around 30 bucks.
The antitheft device on the ignition switch is locked. Does the steering wheel rotate freely with the key in? Sometimes you have to wiggle the steering wheel to free the key lock. There is a remote possibilty that the ignition switch broke, and the only solution would be to take it apart and fix it or replace it, a job best performed at the dealer.
Disconnect the battery.. Its magnetic. The transponder has gone bad in the key. May need replacing. Unless someone tried to put the wrong key in the ignition and broke the electrical contacts inside the tumbler

I just had this happen to me yesterday with my 2002 Santa Fe. After trying everything (jiggling steeling wheel, shaking the car, you name it we tried it). We got a chain and pulled the car ahead about 2 feet. That didn't seem to do anything but we then pulled up the emergency brake into the lock position and tried to start the car (with the ER brake on) and it worked!!! The steering wheel came unlocked and the car started up. Don't know if it was the pulling of the car that broke something free or if it was the ER brake, but that was what worked for me.
