Question about 2008 Toyota Highlander

When do I change the transmission fluid in my 2003 Highlander?

The last time I took my 2003 Toyota Highlander for an oil change I was told the transmission fluid color wasn't right and it needed to be changed. The owner's manual says to change it "as required" whatever that means. What is the best way to determine that the fluid needs to be changed?

I had my transmission flud flushed and later found out it was only flushed and not drained and the filter washed and replaced. When I asked the mechanic about it he said they don't recommend replacing the filter anymore and that flushing is only recommended. True?

If the fluid smells burnt or is black, replace fluid. Manufacturer suggests that you inspect it at every 30,000 mile interval. I would suggest having it flushed every 75,000 miles as a normal maintenence.

After we flushed tranny and cleaned out gunk, it ran good for a few weeks. now it will run good for about ten minutes, then it will not pull in Drive. is there a solution better than a new tranny?

When you say flushed out the tranny, was this done by flowing fluid through or by removing the transmission pan and draining the oil. has the filter been changed? Is the transmission fluid up to the right level?

Why is the engine light and VSC light on in my 2003 Highlander with 136,000 miles.

There is some of a sensor attached to the oil filter assembly, sometimes after regular oil change mechanic forgets to check this connection. So no harm to the engine, but the light stays on. Just ask them to re-connect.
Happened to my Highlander like 5 times :)

I have 98,000 miles on a 2001 Highlander and don't know when I last change the plugs. When should I change the spark plugs and what elso do I need to do to tune the engine. Thanks

Generally, spark plugs used in cars today are supposed to last up to 100k. Most experts recommend replacing the plugs and fuel filter every 35,000 to 50,000 miles. The timing belt and serpentine belt should have been replaced at 75,000 miles and the transmission fluid should have be serviced by now.

Frequency to changing transmission fluid on 2003 Corolla

I'm not sure about Toyota's specific recommendation but when I ran my service station, we changed trans fluid at the 50,000 to 60,000 mile range. This covered most manufacturer's requirements at the time. Hope this helps.

Just had my oil changed in my 2001 highlander and the check engine light came on for code 1130 and 1133 which I was told is the bank one sensor one. Could it have anything to do with the oil change? If...

We have a 2003 highlander, and every time they check the air filter(done during oil change), they disconnect a vacuum hose located on the bottom of the air filter housing. This causes the check engine light to come on. It takes a flashlight and a skinny wrist to reconnect the hose. tell them not to check the air filter anymore. Mostly a walmart screwup.

You should have had the transmission fluid changed at 30, 000 miles, and you should have the transmission flushed at 60,000.
Change the timing belt at 90, 000 miles (if you have a V-6).
Change the air filter every 15,000 miles.
Check the spark plug condition at 60,000, and change the coolant at 60,000.
