Oil gauge flutuating

Oil gauge goes from 40 to 0 to 40 back and forth. When starting it is at 40, it goes to 0. When slowing or stopping it stays at 40. When going up a hill it stays at 40. When going down a hill it goes to 0. It sounds good and all the fluids are fine.

I would first check that the connection at the sending unit is clean and secure. If problem persists, have someone put a mechanical gauge on it and read actual pressure. Or, just replace the sending unit and see what readings you have then.Your description suggests a low oil condition (but you checked that) therefore I would also do a "wiggle" test on wiring to see if you can duplicate the problem. You don't have any tapping noises from engine when low pressure is showing on gauge? A bit strange... The going down to ) downhill sure sounds like low oil level. Do what I said and see what happens...

I think I'd be real tempted to check connection at oil sender, for clean and tight, and if that doesn't help, for the price, I'd change it, but not knowing exactly which engine you have, I couldn't give you a ballpark on oil sender switch. You can look it up or call autozone, or similar for price.

1996 jeep wont stay started and oil pressure gauge goes up and down

hot or cold engine , or both.?
the oil pressure will be in direct ratio to engine rpm. slow low, fast high
due to the oil pump connection to engine crankshaft.

stalls.: can be caused by 50 things, or just 4 in physics.
the EGR valve (if you have one, no engine stated)
can stick open and stall any engine, and in fact LOVES to. clean it.
1: list 12vdc to EFI. (spark and fuel brain) dash lights dim?
2: lost compression hot, ? compression tests.
3: lost spark, do spark tests. and timing, checks.
4: bad fueling, too much if floods, and misfires and stalls.
too little fuel, it starves and dies.

the 1 free test, is can you save the stall with a fast right foot.

we do the tests. avoiding those 50 guesses....
each tests are simple and the tools dirt cheap .

I have a S10 Chevy my oil pressure gauge going s back and forth 40 & 60 driving stopping somethings below 40

Could be normal.
Idle RPM pressure is lower than say 2000 RPM
You could replace the sending unit or have the actual pressure checked with a mechanical gauge.

MY OIL PRESSURE GAUGE GOES UP WHEN I DRIVE BUT WHEN I STOP IT GOES BACK TO 40 IS THIS SAFE? I JUST GOT A OIL AND FILTERED CHANGE.

At idle, the gauge usually reads about 40, when engine revs up, the gauge will go up to about 50 or 60. This totally normal and you should know that the reading on the gauge is just made up by the computer because the engine does not have an actual oil pressure sensor.

1999 suburban 5.7L - Oil pressure gauge bounces back and forth between 40 and 50 pounds very rapidly

Replace the oil pressure sensor located near the oil filter. When this part starts to fail you will see your oil pressure gauge bounce all around

Oil gauge fluctuates back and forth. sometimes

You'll need to determine if the oil pressure is actually changing, or if the sending unit or gauge is lying to you. Be certain the oil level is up to normal, then check the actual oil pressure with a test gauge. If the pressure varies (drops) at engine idle, perhaps your pressure bypass is defective, or perhaps the oil pump is worn. Testing with a known good pressure gauge should lead you in the right direction.

03 gmc envoy with 5.3 140000 miles. Oil pressure reading fluxuates between 0 and 40. When problem first started pressure read 80. When vehicle was new it stayed at midpoint (40) vehicle has plenty of oil....

There may be a loose wire or the gauge or sending unit may be going bad. The first thing I would do is to hook up a temporary oil pressure gauge, not using the old one at all. With this watch gauge while driving and see what readings you get. If the readings still jump around you have a pump that is getting weak and failing, If that is the case the pump should be replaced, but with high milage you may consider rebuilding the entire engine. If the readings stay normal start checking for a loose wire at gauge or sender. Then check sender, then gauge and replace as needed.

Loose oil pressure when engine slows down

That's normal in most cases, depending how low it goes. 40 psi approx when driving, 20 psi approx when idling ?
