Question about 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier
My 97 cavalier drives just fine...but when I hit a red light and take my foot off the gas it dies...it will start up immediately again. you just can't take our foot off of the gas even to turn. Please help me.
I suspect your throttle position sensor has gone bad. The same thing happened to my sister's Mazda MPV. It cost $24 for a new sensor, and took me all of 10 minutes to install the new one. Your vehicle has an on-board diagnostic computer (an OBD-2), and any auto parts retailer can scan it for fault codes at no charge (they want to sell you the replacement part). If there is anything else wrong, such as a bad oxygen sensor, MAP sensor, camshaft position sensor, etc... it should show on the print-out. Don't let any mechanic start changing parts without knowing what the problem is. He doesn't mind spending your money on parts you may not need, and he is getting paid by the hour.
