Question about 1989 Dodge D150

1 Answer

1989 Dodge 318 2-WD D-150

Hey my truck has been messing with me. It runs fine until i try to get it up to speed. First it acts like its straining to shift gears, but if i goose it it will shift. gets to about 45mph and with the pedal on the floor it seems to loose the power, and if i slow any it dies and refuses to start unless i use starter fluid (NOS lol). I have replaced the brain about two weeks ago because it lost spark alltogether. Once i did that it worked for a bit, still starts and all. But since it started with this i thought it might be my fuel filters/pump. Replaced those last night. no change. Im at a loss here ya'll. Anybody know whats goin on? Hit me back asap please!!!! travisk1986@hotmail.com

about the 1989 Dodge 318 2-WD D-150 truck. well it revs a little then start to idle strange like it isnt getting the power it need. instead of revving to a higher rpm it gets about half way and stays there. and the sparks and wires i think were on it when i got the truck. this all started to happen when i replaced the brain. i had been told my problem with the no spark was my voltage regulator but on this make and model that part is located inside the brain. so yeah my $20 fixer uper part turned out to be almost $150. im gonna try taking it back and getting a new one but not sure if that would help. hope this info helps hit me back if you think of somethin. thank you.

If you are engaging your 4 WD at over 55, that in itself may be a problem. Driving over 50 in 4wd may not be a good idea and almost impossible if you are in 4wd Low. You will be straining the rpm limits in 4 wd Low - and everything else in your drive train. It will also be a strain in 4wd High to a lesser extent. (I am assuming you are talking MPH)
