There are three things an engine needs to run. compression, fuel, and fire. you need to see if it is getting all three.

jump cable crank it off a running donor car.yet,AAA tow style>?
keep cables in car at all times, I do for 50 years.
that way there is hope.

my guess? (wild and useless) battery dead, or only discharged.
i cant see you so,, must guess. next time say what step fails in starting engine, per operators guide.

if A/T box try to start in Neutral as the oper. guide tells you.

It is possible that you do not have the correct valve timing and a set of valves is hitting on a piston or two. Recheck the marks and it wrong you will have to remove the cam shafts to allow the crank to be brought up to the right position so that the valves do not get bent.

How can i time a 76 sbc 305 if i cant get the car started and don't have timing light just need to get it started

Find cylinder one
Crank the engine with the plugs out,
feel for the compression stroke
mark the timinig mark on the crank.
Set your distributer with the cap off.
Or you can pull the valve cover and watch the valves for the timming mark.
that should get you close enough to get it started then adjust.

ok there is no way to physicaly time the engine with a light. you need to bring #1 cylinder to TDC then install dist. mark contact for ign wire #1 on cap outer as accurately as possible. then mark dist. base with same mark. allign rotor with mark and tighten clamp. assemble and fire make sure fireing order is right, cap is stamped on top. the exact way to set is with a scanner, cam(dist.) sensor and crank sensor need to bolth read #1 TDC at 0 degree advance and tighten clamp, computer takes over from there. be as accurate as possible, if done right it will run, if engine light flashes, your too far off try to bump a tick either way and have a tech set for you with a scanner. best of luck!
