Pull out a spark plug, shove a screwdriver in the plug wire end and lay the screwdriver across the motor on metal. Have someone turn it over and you look to see if there is spark between the screwdriver and motor. Don't touch while motor is being turned over! If no spark, check coil, distributor cap and rotor and plug wires.

The three things an automobile has to have to run are compression, fuel, and fire. I think you need to check the firing. I would remove one of the plugwires and insert a screwdriver into the end of the plugwire, have someone turn the engine over while you hold the screwdriver about 1/4 inch away from metal on the engine if you get a spark then it is firing and you need to move on the next option. I hope that helps!

You may potentially have an serious electrical drain in your car circuits. The drain is slow and continuous, draining your battery charge even if you do a start. Check the cabling and look for load on your battery with a Volt meter to check for any charge drainage. Check this as a precaution before replacing any more parts.

If you knew why it stopped running in the first place, you may find out why it wont do anything at all now.
When you say it won't turn over, you do mean , when you turn the key, nothing happens, right ? Does the starter engage at all ? Does something click under the hood ? Any noises ? Can you hear the fuel pump whirring ?

Check fuel pressure it should be at least 52 psi if anything less replace fuel pump.If pressure is good then pull vacuum line off of the fuel pressure regulator and if fuel runs out replace regulator.

1996 gmc k1500 4x4 5.7 vortec motor no start keep

Replace the coolant sensor on the front of the intake manifold. The coolant sensors on this engine does go bad and wont set a check engine light. The sensor will read about -32 to 0 degrees when they do go bad. The computer thinks it is that cold and sends tons of fuel to the engine. If you try to start the engine with the throttle depressed to the floor it puts the fuel system in clear flood mode and wont fire the injectors. Engine will start then and run very rich. The coolant sensor has two wires on it and sometimes you need to replace the wiring pigtail going to it as the sensor can seep coolant into the connector and corrode the terminals. All the parts are available at pepboys and autozone or napa. Good luck

WILL NOT START

sounds like water ingress to either a control module or the coil pack, check all control box locations eg footwells for water and then check the engine bay for loose or naked wires, dry and clean and possibly cover with a plastic bag etc and it should be fine.
