Re: how to remove the velocity joint?
Hi, on the CV where the shaft goes into the joint there is a circlip you hace to open the clip and tap the joint at the same time to remove it, they can be a pain but thats how to get it off, refit is just put the joint on the lead of the shaft and tap it home, do not hit the threads without protecting them ie use a block of wood and hammer the wood not the joint, hope this helps you,
a 6ya Mechanic can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Well to start with it is a CV (constant velocity) joint.
You might have the option if the joint is not "OUT" of installing a new boot on the joint without removing it from the vehicle.
If it is out the you have to remove the tire from the side that is out.
Take off the nut that is on the end of the axle.
Then remove the spindle from the lower a frame.
Pull the spindle off the outer splines of the axle shaft
Then with a bar pop the old one out of the transmission and reverse the procedure it go back together. Make sure you get the axle popped back in the transmission.
"Make sure you get the correct replacement axle"
There are no instructions available except with the purchase of SOME boot kits. Depending on the CV joint design, you may not be able to remove the joint from the axle. However, most Hyundai CV joints can be removed from the axle by using a drift and a 2 pound hammer to knock the joint off the axle. Once you've done this, it's a simple matter of removing the old boot and installing the new one w/fresh grease and tension bands. Otherwise, you have to remove the DOJ from the other end of the axle and replace the boot that way.
Hello, If the axle shafts have not been replaced before, you have the old style c/v joints. The tools to do this job are very expensive abd are usually only purchased by dealers etc. They consist of a large cutter, looks like a huge pipe cutter, and a crimper, to crush the cans together. You would be better served to buy an updated axle shaft assembly that is made so anyone can replace the boots. I case you were not sure how to remove the axles, here it is. To do this, you need to elevate the car securely, remove the wheels,
remove the long 13mm bolt from inside the hub then place jack under the
differential and unbolt the mount from the frame, let the diff down
remove cover, remove "C" clip from the end of the axle, jack the diff
up as high as you can get it, take axle down from the wheel side, and
then slide the axle out of the diff. Then you slide the boot down and
at the end of the axle you will find a snap ring. remove snap ring and
then tap the c/v joint out. If you find this information to be correct would you please enter a "fixya" rating. Thanks, Gator241
